If you think someone's RP isn't up to par with server standards, sanction them.

If you think that someone's RP isn't that bad, but it just isn't as good as yours or the RP standards that people set out, that's just being elitist.

I used to believe in a very specific standard for RP as well. I admit it, I was part of the camp that used to go around and say that people who can't RP well should be punished by having ship restrictions, etc... But I've come to realize that people come here to have fun. Why not let them?

Sure, they might not play the way we do, or they might not play as well as we do, but that doesn't mean that we have to classify them as "lolwuts," segregate our precious, uncorrupted RP from them, and attempt to drive them away.

My point in saying that you were lolwut is that I think this post is wrong. Does that give me a right to call you an lolwut?

No, as you indicated, it does not. It also doesn't give you the right to alienate these players and call these players names.

Edit: I agree with Demon cat-man, except for the part where he calls Baltar a "lolwut".

I humbly await your contribution. I can't fill the space all by myself since I've not experience everything that you and others have. Keep in mind ... this thread is supposed to be productive. So ... please let me know what you'd like for me to add.

Start by making it less hostile.

Stop using the word "lolwut" and start using a more PC term. Yes, we all know they mean the same thing, but frankly, if you say something along the lines of "your RP could use some help or improvement if you do these things" you would get a much more positive response than "you are a lolwut devil killing babies and my server".

@ elgatodiablo: This is not about sanctioning ... this thread is about trying to get people to "Be Excellent" to one another. Its about etiquette ... its about finding ways to avoid having to file violation reports ... its about enjoying the game without having to scream and yell at one another. I want people to be creative in how they role play ... and by that I mean be embrace the role. What I'm trying to avoid are those that are just here to see things blow up. And keep in mind ... the list I'm developing here is a community list ... its not my list. People make suggestions and I update the definitions. This is beyond just my opinion.

@ n00bl3t: I thought this was non-hostile. These examples/definitions are not just mine. I've adjusted them (and will continue to adjust them) based on what others bring to the discussion. Unfortunately ... the LOLWUT term stays. Its a term we all use ... and one I'm seeing quite often when used towards pirates. The point of this thread is to list what we all consider out of bounds with regards to "Being Excellent" to one another ... not against the rules ... but against the enjoyment of the game.

Calling players a lulwut is a defense measure designed to make the opponent appear as wrong or incorrect when they may simply be doing something differently from you. This is either to put down an opponent, justify your actions, or improperly support one of your own points or agendas.

Defining a lolwut is pretty much the same as defining the word "n****er" (and I hesitate to use that term).

You are doing nothing but giving people ammunition for continued hatred of anyone who's name is not recognized.

Elgatodiablo has been responding based on my view of this term, I believe. He is calling you a lolwut to try to prove a point. You have done something he does not approve of, you are not in his circle of friends, and therefore, you must be a lolwut to be despised and ignored.

Stop supporting segregation.

Hmm ... sounds a lot like the post I made in another thread that got hidden because I made claims that thread was ... as you so eloquently put it ... Ethnocentric.

I find it puzzling how you can get away with this but I cannot? Double standard? Eh ... better not say that ... I might get hidden or worse.
