im the same way jimmys (due to skepticsim of a Lieutenant running a battlecruiser)been bumped uip to a Lt. Colonel(equal to a naval commander ) he is a marine but only gives orders when A: same as harcourt
B: i happen to be with people that have no idea what they are doing" or C.(and i can get away with it sometimes)when my battlecruiser is the Tactically Superior Vessel(rare occurence).

now jims a marine but a naval custom and doctrine (that ships worth more so its flag unless he is an FNG or non ranking officer) is cannon roleplay in my eyes {LN} tagged ships or not and as i said (as have others)if you build respect(like i have with jimmy) you can get way with alotta of things (if your smart and senseable about em) so yeah i encourrage self made titles just not the abusive ones todate ,ive never been asked to stop shouting orders nor have i been harrassed when i gave them you can even ask several [LN].

but like i said(and im bolding it) you need to build up your character first ,THEN take your role!

And I'm absolut of Sirius. I order to you, to give up your cookies to me ! D:<

I think you will spot a diffrence in quality of rp in the first place. If you'll do something way OoRP as npc faction member, I'll ask you not to do so while being just a rekrut of official player faction. If you will do somewhat harmful in-rp I'll simply open fire on you even if you are in same said faction. (of course provoding solid reason for it)

So there is no big diffrence. I think peeps who are able to make orders do not boss for no reason anyway.

I respected and still respect any good player (indy) with a rank they claimed. Some claim general, I also respect that if they meet the necessary RP abilities.

Grimly claims himself as Elder and Sovereign of the Black Sails.
Mc.Donalds claims himself as Officer.
Sonja.Hermundt claims herself as Flieger.
Any other of my chars claims themselves as civilians or fools (Gerald.Gallego is).

Both worked accordingly to the rank they claims.

Self ranking may never be done just because you have the ships, the ID or the tag.

Commodore Walker of the LNS Nashville is that rank because he commands a small battlegroup, which are all friends who have decided to RP with me, I've been treated well actually and have even had a few LN guys show respect to him which I thought was cool. I don't expect anyone to listen, anyway I think that if you play your role correctly and remain a respected indie there is not problem with titles unless you go crazy and give yourself a Admiral or Grand Admiral rank. It's not just Indies either I've seen some Faction members with crazy ranks and such.

I think people should be free to give themselves whatever rank or grade they feel like, as long as it's not a unique position that would require SRP (i.e., Emperor of Kusari or President of Liberty, or even CEO of Kruger, etc...).

I'm not one to say "No, you can't be an admiral in your dreadnought!"

However, if you're an indie and you give yourself a high rank, don't expect people to follow your orders, and please don't try to throw your weight around until you're actually well-known and respected. Hang around long enough, show enough dedication and intelligence, and that's likely to happen.

Sort of like what happened with my character The Doctor in the Order.
I just roleplayed around, he was in command of a capital ship, but I never threw his weight around. And people started to respect me and even listen to me on occasion... and now I'm Order High Command.

Note that this doesn't give official factions liberty to treat indies like trash.
You can roleplay back to their being an admiral, too. Just because they're independent doesn't mean they're stupid.

If they prove themselves stupid, however, that's a different case.

The one thing I like about the way Liberty is set up is that my character is a Commodore of the Secondary fleet, which works out really well.

Yes I met a Liberty Battleship and he kept saying 'lol' and ':)' in local chat and then ordered me to do things. I just ignored him and so he threatened to fire on me... I then went down the lane to Fortbush and he sent me a message in private saying 'I have a Dreadnought and so I am a Admiral and you must do as I say'

He was LNS and seemed like a retard so I kept on my life as usual.

Yeah that happens I've seen a number of cap ships like that, I was going to get a Dread but that is the main reason why I'm sticking with my BC since I mainly use it for RP.
