To keep everything the same size except reduce the size of ships? how would it look? Would it make planets look more realistic in scale? Would it just make things look silly?

Would be utter hell to balance aiming, 'cos it'd need to change speeds and weapons, and then distances, then trade routes, then...
Cascade effect, it would need everything else changing as a result.
*However* from a technical standpoint, it should be 100% possible to just use different ship models, the new ones being scaled down versions of the current ones. Bare in mind this is technical standpoint only, and is not a viable option for addition to the mod, despite the increased realism to planet/base sizes that it would bring.
I had always wondered how small you could make something in Freelancer, the Starflier with both it's wings broken off being the smallest ship I knew...
So yeah, reduce in ship size would also mean changes to: ship movement speed, weapon range, Probably Trade Lane size...
Speed might be not too much an issue, reduced with the ship size, distances would indeed become longer, perhaps keeping cruise speed unchanged but add delay to charge it up?
should then work out the same time to get across a system, cruise would be relatively faster, but up the range on CD and it would work...
There might arise issues with hit-boxes being too small and hard-points being too close together...
Still, it's funny seeing how the Ross Planetoid can fit easily inside most 5k transports... or several times into the Barge:)
Imagine the workload related to rebalancing everything to meet the new, smaller scale ships. Is it worth it? If you wanted realistic space shooter game, you would not play Freelancer or its mods.
I just pretend that the planets are the right size, and even the Starflier is massive and could carry hundreds of people....But then again. I do get called 'strange'
Increase of system/planet/bases size would be nice idea. because when I see Legate undocking from Crete and Legate have half-planet size its meh...
but Spirit! correct. there would be crapload of work to be done after it, so like NPCs would not fly into Planet, patrols will patrol not empty space and so on... In PlasmaFire mod there was really good sizes of things. but there was big gun ranges also and increased speed.
I think this addon would be nice, but noone would like to spent a week to make it. I would better see player ship detection on radar descreased to 10k not to 15k.

Some systems were made bigger in 4.85. All it did was cause a crap load of people complaining systems were to big. Now your asking to make systems big again? Seriously? I wish they would stop deleting old topics so newish players could read them, and stop asking for things the vets asked to get rid of in past.
i dont see how big systems are an issue. to quote Douglas Adams

We need even bigger systems. also maybe a bit of a general ramp up of the speed.
