If gunboats start to beat cruisers then there's something seriously wrong with balancing. Cruisers were designed, if not only, to counter gunboats.

To my knowledge, they don't. Statistics prove nothing compared to actual in game performance.

Why do Gunboats have Razors and Pulse Cannons?

There is ONE, and only one anti-cap weapon a gunboat should have.

The Forward Cannon. Everything else should be primaries and anti-fighter weapons. If a gunboat doesnt have a forward gun? It is a GUNSHIP - primarily for anti-fighter work.

Come on. Razors and pulses require more skill from a pilot then simple guns. Besides Three better gunboats can easily destroy a Cruiser or even a Dread if they know how. I don't see the problem here Gunboats are anti fighter and bomber ships but they can be also used as anti cap. I consider them like Wasps. One wasp can't do much damage to anything bigger then another wasp but two or three or even more wasps can make some serious damage. And honestly on this server there are like 5 people who can fly cruisers and battleship like they should be flown and those people rarely die because they are smart. So only thing you can do is to learn how to fly them or change to fighters, they are fun.

After reading all that... and being a 'newbie' to Disco,

Not having flown either a gunboat or a destroyer/cruiser I can't attest to how they handle.

But I can say that I've fought both in my itty bitty Roc. A lone bomber can stand a pretty good chance against a lot of gunboats, including the KNF one.

Oh and a pair of bombers or a trio of fighters, as others have said, will destroy any gunboat, often even if they have fighter support.

Gunboats are fine where they are. (Except maybe the Dragon Hachiman, which I've seen torn to shreds multiple times.)

As for Destroyers/Cruisers Pilot skill is primary factor for/against them.

Interesting. Am I the only one who has always seen gunboats as useless?

I'm a bad capital ship pilot, but I was still able to destroy THREE Corsair Gunboats in an icefield. I admit they weren't the smartest, but they had armour and all important stuff, and as I said I suck in caps too.

On the other hand, I've always seen Gunboats die to bombers too easily. Two bombers should equal most properly flown Gunboats or not? Unless it's one of the heavy gunboats with dual basic missiles (which are being spammed), it's often quite easy to beat one with two bombers. Some can go down even to one bomber with some luck and patience, even with roughly equal pilots (*cough* BH GS).

For me, Gunboats are just annoying cannon fodders.

A criminal always returns to the crime scene.

A group of GBs should take down a cruiser like a group of Fighters takes down a Gunboat.

It works, kay?

Gunboats are great if you can fly them, not if you can't.
