As to your main point, yes, gunboats are powerful, they're also fairly easy to take down. If the gunboat is close enough to use his primary turrets on a cruiser, the cruiser should be ripping them apart. I've seen it, i've had it done to me, i've done it. If a GB gets close to a cruiser, the cruiser wins, hands down. It has many more guns, and as such, does much more damage/second then the gunboat can, couple that with its larger shields and most gunboats won't even get to the cruiser's hull.
' Wrote:Previously it was possible to kill a Cruiser with a GB, i have seen it often in New York, but today it is no longer probably due to the better weapons like the light mortar or Razors and i am really glad we have now those Weapons for the Cruiser class:D
If you saw lone gb taking down a cruiser, that's probably because the person in the cruiser had no idea what he was doing. There are a LOT of brand new people buying a cruiser right off the bat in Liberty. They have no clue how to use it, and an experienced gb pilot can kill him if he has enough time.
Also, I've never flown it, but the Liberty Siege Cruiser seems to be made more for taking down larger ships. Something small like a gb takes away the effectiveness of its big forward gun which removes about 75% of it's firepower. I made up those numbers of course, but that's the impression I have of the ship.
Well, you cant kill a GB with anything smaller than one with any reliablity. Infact, unless your godlike, the only thing that can solo a GB is a ptrans. Honestly, nothing smaller than a Gunboat can effectivly fight them off, which is whyeveryoe wants these pwnships.
Skill is also a factor. I soloed a Liberty gunboat and a Percheron transport as a lone Roc bomber recently due to my foes being complete newbies. And this was me being a bit rusty at bombing - as the fight went on, my skills improved.
Contrans can have fun with a gb too, as long as the gb doesn't mount infurnos.
There are some GS that can have fun with cruisers, given the chance. A hacker GS will pick apart unescorted cruisers very slowly. Especially LABC that don't have a thruster. They are pretty much meat for anything that has over 1k range and can turn.
As pertaining to an event earlier today, if two VHF's can beat a fully kitted LRGB, I see no reason why an LRGB, or a pair of LRGB's wouldn't be able to defeat a fully kitted Liberty Siege Cruiser.
Sure it matters who's swinging the biggest hammer, but it matters more who's swinging it.
I just find it odd that gunboats alone require an Overwhelming swarm of whatever you can throw at it, and thast it is cheap and affoarable, and common. THis almost ensures a Steady flow of highly difficult to kill gunboats. Unless of course, its a n00b boat. Point being you cant fight back against a gunboat, unless you have something of equal or bigger size.

Wrong.
Three VHF eat a GB, at least one with a TCD, to kill it's drift, other two with MR work.
Easily done.
Or solo it in a bomber, or just two VHF. All works.
