Now granted I have not been in game for a bit, but I have been thinking...

And now that pirating cargo has become more common placed and popular, you begin to see more pirate transports around hitting the tradeships.

Well I am just thinking about what if a freighter took the same role...like say a Correo. I know there was a big powerplant increase for them, but I still have not had the chance to test in the actual game a freighter fighting a transport.

Anyone try this or have any useful information or tips for cargopirating in a freighter?
And since things have changed while I was gone, I wonder what you think the best loadout for a Correo would be.

(I am hoping to re-buy my Correo when I get back in game)

I reckon that a pair of pirate freighters with appropriate loadouts can take down transports fairly easily. My Buccaneer has been on a Bactrian for quite some time now and I can tell you it's quite the nifty ship.

The powerplant increase opens up some interesting possibilities. Currently the x-shuttle is the only freighter to mount a fighter torpedo - give it a mini razor, and you can fire 12 consecutive shots before running out of energy! That's going to hurt a transport a LOT, as well as being scary for any fighter or bomber that tries to joust you.

Additionally, you could outfit a freighter with all shieldbusters, and use that to drain the transport's powerplant so it can't fire its guns.

Just remember to mount an armor upgrade, otherwise you might find your freighter destroyed rather suddenly if you take a few hits while your shields are down.

Really? I never knew there was a freighter with a fighter torpedo on it...sounds like something the dev team over looked but I like the idea of it. I would like to see more of the freighters with one to give them an edge, or atleast some class 5 turrets.

In regards to the powerplant, I hear it recharges dreadfully slowly...is the cruise drain thing a major problem with freighters?

Since this is freighter piracy we are talking about, cruise drain isn't an issue when sitting in one spot.. At least not the the pirate - it can be for the trader if he hits cruise, has his powerplant drained, gets disrupted, and then has his powerplant drained by the all-debbie pirate freighter

Hmm, good point about the energy consumption.

Well lemme think....All debs does not really sound good for general operations, I can see if it was a speciality ship (targeting transports only or something), but I think some hull busters would be good to have. I am able to picture a Correo with two tizonas and a few hull busters, using the nuke mine to get rid of the transport's hull. But then again, maybe 4 EMP weapons would work better if the nuke was the main hull buster.... needs more thought.

Said pirate might not be working alone. If you were working alone, you would need hullbuster guns.

For solo piracy, I would go with screamer mines + hullbuster guns, as screamers are great for dropping transport shields if used skillfully.

Yeah... I guess people have tried this. I don't recommend the CSF though. Ever. It handles more like a rock than most, based on my experience buzzing around as an indy Junker.

The X-Shuttle seems like a good ship though.

I think freighters are balanced as they are, since they weren't originally designed to enter combat anyway attempts to buff them would be illogical and create possible spammage.

X Shuttle is good, you're talking about a MR platform with sub-bomber turning. Need to do something about that HF armour though.

The X-shuttle does quite well if you bump the armor. Mine carries a Cap4 in the meantime and I still do a lot of trading with it. It would not be a great ship for piracy though, because you can either mount a CD or a Minirazor.

With an Anki I have already killed a few Pirate-Transports. This is very easy if you equip it with a CD and a Screamer. The Anki can mount thre Codeguns. I used to combine these with class4 Magma-hammers when it was still possible.

The Correo is probably equipped in a way that pirating with it would be possible. I don't have one so I can't say much about it.

But I think it would be even possible to pirate in a Dromedary. Two of these can bring down the larger type gunboats without big problems.
