I was role-playing on my AI character today, and it got me thinking.
Are my AI sending oral transmissions out in space or text messages..

I'd like to see how the majority of the Freelancer community here role-play in-game commutations so I can adjust my role-play appropriately.

EDIT: Hmm.. The poll I made disappeared.. Maybe I didn't do it correctly?

You're talking. Typing to each other would be absurd.

Unless microphones were an accessory that didn't get used past any Mark I ship in Sirius.

Y'know, NPCs and all.

P.S. I believe you mean oral.

The way I look at it:
Its not just Voice, Image of the one you are talking to appears on the screen in front of you, and you can see and hear him talking.
(Same thing that happens when you 'hail' a NPC)
And about AIs, Go to a Station that has Robots at Bar and talk to them, Thats what I think about 'AI Communication' InGame, a 'Mechanized' Voice with maybe no image at all.

I'd imagine that A.I.s would communicate verbally with others, our messages actually represent verbal communication in RP, despite the fact that we type. Try to understand this concept and imagine yourself as HAL.

In order to communicate with non A.I, you'd require an signal to audio converter/transmitter of somesort. Unless you transmit messages directly onto the other person's ship computer monitor.

I sort of disagree with the picture (under the implication that it's always there). That'd be like your face popping up with caller ID. Which would be creepy in more than one way. I imagine it would probably be optional, or at the very least able to be disabled through some sneaky method similar to hotwiring a car. Not really supposed to be done, but it can be. And besides all that, if you're doing it in system chat in say, New York, does the screen have a seizure, or...?

Returning back to the point of it being optional.

But that's completely unrelated to the point at hand, so I'll leave the thread and brush my teeth and play my didgeridoo. Bai.

AIs wouldn't communicate orally with each other, let's assume they 'think' in code: in order to communicate verbally, they have to turn their code into words, the recipient (another AI in this case) then would 'translate' the words into code again. This doesn't make sense, it would be simpler to just transmit code amongst each other (the same way computers communicate). In communication with humans, they would use verbal communication, because humans can't process their code.

Which actually means AIs wouldn't be able to communicate with nomads, since they don't have a 'mind' that can be manipulated and given visions.

EDIT: bloody typos

Your ship would have a translator that could easily turn basic messages into voice, if you were "talking" to an AI.

My explanations were based on A.I/human interaction. The A.I would translate their signal outputs into audio and then transmit them over to the human ship, the human's audio message would be translated into electrical signals in order for the A.I to understand them. This achieves verbal communication between an A.I and human.

In the case of A.I/A.I interaction, in RP there shouldn't be any transmissions comprehensible by humans at all. A.I's would send signals directly to each other given that they both run on the same protocols. If not, a translator would still be needed and translate the other A.I's signals into ones the receiving A.I can understand. If humans intercepted those transmissions they would make no sense out of them without the use of a translator.

Guys you'regetting this all wrong. I am aware how I should role-play my AI vessel.

I was just wondering how other people saw the in-game communcation.
Seems like everyone so far sees as radio transmissions.

Just out of curiosity,

How much scientific education do all parties currently engaged in speculation in fields regarding AI, code transmission/reception, electrical signals, and the whatnot actually have? I just think the RP community can be lulzy sometimes in this manner. Anywho...

I really don't think a flying spaceship the size of a Liberty dreadnought composed entirely of circuits and other such computer things would mind terribly the additional .00000001 nanosecond required to process it.

I really don't.

-Edit- Besides Dimm Dimmadome, owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome and Dimmadome Acres, your questions about the typing/talking have been answered. It's our turn to hijack the thread and send you to tears.
