maybe switch the house, start playing in one you never wanted to play in before, that gave me a lil bit of motivation when I was bored. In my case it was starting to play in Liberty and figuring out it indeed can have RP. I just never noticed it before because with the first 'lol' I stopped reading system chatter.

Use /restart miner, to get most of the stations mapped. Then, go invest some money in a trading ship. Whichever you can get your hands on. Get a Freelancer ID (maybe tag as well?). Fly around Sirius doing some trading, smuggling... working for pirates occasionally, maybe. Just fly around and have fun. Be a FREELANCER!
Well, sadly we won't (can't) play alot together or i'ld suggest you sit in a descurion (corsair LF) and come pirate with me for a week to see how is it from Corsair side.
But I have a cool idea for you. Actually really cool.
Why don't you (since you're bored) take a roll of an oorp discovery reporter, and poke all trade factions from different houses, trade with them for a week and make a report after that month?
Yanno like.. "How was it in Rheinland", "whats liberty corps like?" etc..
I'm sure every faction would accept you. Some even have shared ships to give you, or you can yanno... Go fully neutral and fly something that fits you like a bwtrans.

I talk at everything that moves (and isn't an NPC) and sometimes they talk back, leading to lovely interactions that I wasn't expecting. They don't always talk back, but I don't let that rattle me. Hell, if I had a good time getting ganked by silent cattlebruisers in 4.84, what's a few less than talkative guys now. And when you do catch someone- it's great. What's there to lose? Well, sometimes it means you can get caught up in Honshu for an hour during a fifteen minute leg of your trade run (and the only leg that has contraband on it >.>) but it was fun, and that's the point.
Find fun, enjoy fun.
Has anyone ever tried talking to NPC's? (No, seriously.)
