Title says it. I think there should be at least one kind of passenger pod for trains and transports...after all, not everybody who travels in space can afford to go on those lux liners, or can even afford their own Starflea. Could just be a grey cargo pod with windows, or a totally new model...I just think it's overdue. Mebbe other types of pods, too...ideas? Comments? I'm not a modeler or texturer, so I don't know how hard this might be to do.

Well I like the idea... Pretty sure this can be done, we already have normal cargo pods. They would just need changing a bit.

So yeah, me likes.:)

Unfortunately, even with passenger pods, all trains and most transports were never intended to haul people. It would still be a bit draconian to just pick up pods full of people and have them exposed to space for the haul.

The following ships are made specifically for hauling people, and just as trains have bad RP background for hauling people... these have bad RP for hauling most everything else.

How would they be any more exposed than if they were in the hull of a ship? "Many of these cargo pods have been converted from regular freight hauling to more specialized purposes, such as self contained welding shops, machine shops, storage units, living quarters, drug labs, the uses seem endless." from here. Any pod built for passengers would, naturally, be protected against radiation, armored, and is within the same protective shield as the rest of the ship. Trains on Earth can move people in specially-designed cars...why not trains in Sirius? The train is just an engine that moves things - no reason for it to be unable to move people, I think.

EDIT: And no, don't mean that any old transport should be able to move people. It just seems to me that a train should (or the other transports with pods)

Pods designed specifically for use by trains hauling 'human' cargo would be neat. Though very few would actually change them out when they change cargo. I like the idea though. Gives more flare to the trains.

That's a vary bad idea, sorry to say that. The Trains are large goods moving ships not designed to transport people from A to B. By now there are too much Trains and Gulls/Albatross' carrying passengers around and if you think about it, would you like to have a journey in a freight train here on earth?
Not really, do you?

Why are there special ships built for hauling people? Yes, 'cause there are people who like to RP with these things and 'cause nobody want's to spend his time on his vacation between MOX, h-fuel and scrap metal.

Sounds very good to me. I'd load different cargo pods on a train, then load food rations, mining equipment, consumer goods, then passengers (or better yet refugees) then RP as a colonist's transport ship.

What is love of one's country; is it hate of one's uncountry? Then it's not a good thing.

Counterpoint: Those ships are luxury ships, every last one of them. Except maybe the Armored Transport and X-Shuttle (exploration ship more than passenger transport though). Oh, and the prison liner, but... yeah, I don't need to say what's wrong with that.

Civilians don't travel regularly on a cruise liner, they use more utilitarian busses* and passenger trains to get from place to place.

* (how the hell do you spell that anyway? neither way looks right to me.)

Yeah, that's kind of a problem you come across every time you fly one of those ships. All the people see is what the infobox says. You can't RP it out that your Demotricus ain't a luxury yacht but some kind of coach (like the US Greyhounds) or your liner is more like a ferry then a real luxury liner.

Guess it's really time to give the passenger transport business more ships but it seems those passernger pods will be the next way to travel through Sirius.
