if im correct there are maybe 6layers,
with blending mode set to hard light and opacity about 85%
and motion blur behind the ships, with a little brushing for the highlights.
am i correct?

Around 40-50 working layers (only logo had around dozen of em before I merged them). Many modes used, lots of combinations, photo-adjustments, no brushing (not at least this time) but some of the other tools were used a lot (selection tools, gradient tool etc).

You're right in principle although I didn't achieve this using what you've mentioned above (except of the motion blur). It does looks like it has only several layers. It does look simple. And that's the point - to try to hide away so many tricks in order to create an image, a photography to be more precise, which has a lot of details and it is pleasing to the eye.

Well, I'm not gonna comment your sig nor anyone else's but I will tell you that with patience, enthusiasm, creativity and some talent - everyone can make a progress. Forget about tutorials. I never used any. PS is easy if you just explore it like a toy or something.
