I have only seen you guys wandering around a few times before, and apparently that was a big disaster
but really I am all for having some more variety around here,
if done right this will be an amusing faction to watch
but then again, it would be amusing to watch if done wrong
perhaps if you run your ships without shields people would think you of less of PVP oriented
BSG is science fiction no? Yet, in the new version you had Starbuck.....who died, came back, the mysteriously vanished at the end of the series. You also have the two characters that bothered/guided Baltar and Six. Then appeared on Earth in present time. One could call Starbuck a ghost, it simply depends on the person making the call.
Your idea of science fiction =/= everyone else's. Get. That. Through. Your. Head.
Also. Try not to make false claims like this. You, nor I, know what the majority of the playerbase would accept ghosts on the server. You don't know if most of them share your belief that ghosts aren't part of science fictions.
Its statements like that, that make you look like your grasping at straws.
As for you claiming Ghosts don't exist......while I myself don't believe in them I dare you to provide concrete proof that they don't exist. At one time in human history we thought the Earth was the center of the universe, we thought it was flat. Not until we could prove otherwise did the majority of us believe otherwise. There are always things in this world we cannot validate with science and fact, as we aren't intelligent enough to understand all the mysterious of our universe yet. Ghosts could indeed exist, we just don't understand them. I find the fact you claim to be a Science Fiction nut yet you can't open you mind rather.......contradicting.
You aren't Igiss. Try not to speak as if you were. Until he or the admins step in and say it has no place, Outlaw and crew can RP to their hearts desire.
Now. You Ghost bunch. Can we get some forum RP and a higher level of in game RP than last time you were active? I'd also suggest you actually ally with someone somehow as you will be short lived if you follow Apoc Wing's 'I piss on everyone' attitude.
Hey mate thx for that you nailed it to the Wall;), on a sidenote Ill say I have a nice RP Feature in the Pipeline Im gonna Call the "Underworld Lore" which will basically give a lowdown of "Our" interpretation of what the spiritual realm in Discovery is like, and will provide a backbone to the kind of RP we will be engaging in IE Written in a RP format,
for e.g. there will be a section about how Ghost ships cannot shoot just any old ship as the Ghost Ships that did that last time filled the underworld with Innocent zoner souls and the Underworld was in chaos because of it. Those soul hungry renegades like the Ghost.Ship-"Spagna" who killed everyone were punished and was never again allowed to leave the underworld, Spagna's Punishment now even greater than before. This Lore written by the Dark Lords of the Underworld will restrict the actions of all Ghost Ships and the souls they can actually collect.
I believe a RP piece like the Lore will provide the Much needed forum RP your talkin about. I just have to discuss it with Outlaw first before gettin to work on it.
I hope the "Underworld Lore" maybe seen as a Ghostly Code of conduct and analogous to the Nomad Lore in "Some" Ways......
Thanks

BSG is (very) soft science fiction, ie fiction that, while featuring certain aspects of science fiction for storytelling purposes, places it's focus on drama, the interaction between characters etc while neglecting the science aspect.
In contrast, hard science fiction tries to portray a logically consistent, science-based world in which the characters interact.
While Freelancer certainly is no "true" hard science fiction game (few games are, mainly because it is hard to portray the distant future in a game that aims to be accessible to casual players), it certainly leans towards it - sure, science isn't diligently obeyed, but if you just look hard enough there are logical explanations for almost anything in the FL universe that justify it's Wild West In Space-setting. It also builds upon our real world - a world in which souls and ghosts do not exist (and don't make me bring the "Not Even Wrong"-hammer again), which provides another argument against the silliness you are defending here.

If you want to play it this way - fine. Yes, you're right, I'm neither Igiss nor an admin, but I *am* a member of the story development team, and there's one thing I can tell you for sure: we'd never ever make soul-eating ghosts mod canon. Sure, Outlaw can take the mick and negatively contribute to everybody else's RP (or, more likely, PvP) experience, but even if his RP was stellar (which it is far from), he wouldn't get officialty rights for his ghost faction.

I must say the last statement you made is completely false, because If the RP is sound and most like the idea of a ghost faction then it would get officiality. Unless your telling me its the admins will as to how the Discovery story is shaped, which I believe its not as so many Player Factions have forged the story of disco out of their sheer will to have their RP recognised. So a ghost faction has every chance but due to the special nature of the faction, extra care must be taken in making the RP as logical and as realistic as possible.
for e.g. every part of the GhostShip existence will be backed up with RP Science Information to give a Pseudo-Proof that these Ghosts exist somewhere in sirius, thus making the RP that little more plausaable. Seems your scared somehow if this became popular, ghosts would forge the story of disco further??? I some how doubt that would happen as we would be nothing but a small Hoard of ships haunting only but a small corner of sirius. We would intend to have no influence outside the omicrons!

Foo, you really really need to quit believing the BS you are trying to feed us. Freelancer doesn't lean towards the 'hard' science fiction scene. There are many many things in this game that can be explained via science........there are also many many things that can't be explained via science.
I also find it hilirous you claim souls and ghost don't exist in our world. Again, while I don't belive in ghosts (I do believe that we all have souls) I dare you to provide concrete proof that supports they don't and/or cannot exist. So no, your Not even Wrong hammer doesn't apply. The fact is, you can't open you mind. You can't stand that other people don't agree with you.
I could careless if you are a member of the story dev team, until Igiss or an admin tell Outlaw and crew they can't RP this, you have no say so. Regardless of your status on the dev team. He isn't asking for his group to be mod cannon. Most of the official factions aren't mod cannon. The Asgardian Warriors paid for the construction of Omicron-74 yet there is no mention of them on any of the infocards. I can count the official factions that are part of mod canon on one hand. Thinking that because you are a member of the dev team gives you some right to tell people what they can and cannot RP only shows you have let your position go to your head.
He isn't asking for official status and he has stated he probably doesn't intend to. He is here to have fun. How about you understand that. Instead of shooting the man's idea down because you don't like it, how about you let him have his fun? I think he has gotten the message that unless they pick up the RP they won't survive long.......you know because everyone, including me who is defending them, has said so.

One man's BS is the other man's common sense.

Please remember that "open-minded" means just that - willingness to consider new ideas. It does not come with the requirement to accept them, especially if they are totally, utterly unscientific. In fact, consider: you cannot explain something, therefore you make your statement that we all have souls (you cannot explain something, therefore you can explain it - fallacy much?). And you also refuse to accept science, you say "you cannot prove that it does not exist, therefore it MUST exist". Doesn't that make YOU close-minded?
(Also, I'd like you to explain why souls are feasible, and ghosts aren't. I'm honestly interested.)

Every official faction out there is mod canon. That's what officialty is all about.

The AW got retconned out for they do not fit Disco's lore. They got accepted back then because many regulations where much less strict, which led to factions like them, the =CR= (which was a BSG import back then, which is isn't today anymore as that'd lead to their removal of officialty status) or the KoF to be made official, simply because they were highly active.
Also, don't assume that direct mentions in infocards are all what makes a faction canon.
' Wrote:Thinking that because you are a member of the dev team gives you some right to tell people what they can and cannot RP only shows you have let your position go to your head.
Re-read my post. I have clearly stated that I hold no authority to dictate *anything* to *anyone*. What I've said is that it is futile to form this soul-eating lolghost group, because a) most people won't take them seriously, b) they won't be made mod canon, so they will have NO impact whatsoever on this mod's storyline, and c) that, should they decide to do their thing anyways, all they'll do is ruin other people's fun for their own gain.
See the difference?
' Wrote:He isn't asking for official status and he has stated he probably doesn't intend to. He is here to have fun.
"We're here to have fun". Everybody is. But some people's "fun" intrudes other people's fun. That's one of the things that's slowly killing Disco from the inside - players being inconsiderate of each other. Many don't work together to create a RP environment everybody benefits from. They make their ridiculous statements ("We can identify your Iseijin as Nomad-infected by looking at the color of their gun projectiles!", "We are ghosts and demand a thousand souls!") and do their thing, which pisses people off, creating an atmosphere of disdain, ooRP politics and malevolent competition.

Actually, this isn't true, on more than one level.
AW did fit the lore of Disco. We weren't exactly Zoners though. Both of those facts is why we got our own ID, just like the Phantoms did.
AW were never 'retconned' out of anything. When I created Omicron-74, I intentionally left out mention of the AW, for I was, and still am, a believer in not having mentions of player factions in rumors and infocards, unless that faction has an associated NPC faction, such as the Phantoms.
To this date, I have not entered anything regarding player factions into any infocards I've written, unless that player faction had an NPC faction. The reasoning for this is quite simple; We're not the only server using this mod.
I do suggest you stop arguing in here Foo, for you're wrong on many levels, not just the one I responded to here.
