Underworld Lore

For many thousands of years man has wondered what lies beyond the known world. Through the sands of time many discoveries were made that led to the Advancement of human civilization culminating in the conclusion to the first question when contact was made with the Sentient Beings that have come to be known as Nomads, til this day man fights them in a struggle to survive! So it would seem therefore that there is nothing more to the Physical World than what is already in it, But all the this time man has overlooked the very realm in which reality is entwined with. The Underworld a realm spoken only in myth and legend where the souls of the dead go, when their mortal bodies no longer cease to function has always been existed.

THE BLACKSCIENCE:

In the 20th Century scientists began to detect the gravitational effects of darkmatter upon the physical world via the unexplained rotational speeds of galaxies, where upto 70% of the mass of such galaxies was undetectable. Little did they know of the world that darkmatter makes up nor what goes on within it!

The Underworld is unlike anything known in reality, the physical world cannot interact with it cannot comprehend for the very matter that makes up the Underworld World and Everything in it is undetectable, except for the Gravitational Effects this matter has upon the Physical Realm it surrounds. Dark Matter is what the Underworld is made up of, and thus any Undead Spirit that is also a Dark Matter form will pass straight through any object of the Physical Realm. It is for this reason why the underworld has remained only in legend, humanity cannot envisage this alternate dimension. Dark Matter has another more sinister property which Dark Matter forms can exploit over the physical realm, through an UNKNOWN MECHANISM are able to change the nature of the dark matter that they are made up of in order to interact with the physical world. Thus darkmatter forms (Souls) are able to pass between the Underworld and Physical Realms effortlessly. This would explain how throughout history darkmatter forms (souls) of the undead realm have been able to taunt and harrass beings of the physical world in one instant and then disappear the next.

DARKMATTER REALM:

The underworld is a unforgiving place for the dead, usually when a soul passes from one realm to another it is frantically disarrayed by the horror it faces. Souls are punished for eternity for the life of bad they led in the physical realm, Angry with the punishment befallen to them over time these Trapped souls become Blackened with hatred for the decadence of the Physical Realm. These souls are known as Demons, and become the Henchman of the Guardian of souls in the Underworld.
Known only the as the Boatman it is his Job to the ferry of Souls (Darkmatter forms) from one realm to the next. The Boatman is Overload to all that dwells in the Darkmatter realm "Underworld", his origins are not known but what is known is that he is evil and will stop at nothing to maintain equilibrium in the underworld realm, this balance is only truely maintained by the constant in flux of dark matter into the Underworld. As the very nature of darkmatter itself is so volatile that without a critical mass of darkmatter, any dimension it makes up would collapse in on itself. Thus the boatman requires as many souls as he can muster, for souls are made up of the very darkmatter that is required to maintain equilibrium!

I have tried to suggest the existence of ghosts in the universe as beings entities made up of darkmatter. Which would explain some of the features of what ghosts can do, ie there interaction with the physical world etc...

It still has ghosts and souls in it, in a universe that never dealt with that sort of thing, for various good reasons.

Darkmatter still exists in our dimensions, otherwise it wouldn't really affect our universe. So in reality, it's part of our universe and our dimensions.

The underworld itself you claim to not be a physical thing. Therefore it cannot be made of Darkmatter, which is a physical thing.
This essentially leaves the existence of such a thing up for debate, which the community is very entitled to decide upon.

You are also proposing that a soul is made of darkmatter, which defies scientific measurements (Simply weigh someone, then weigh their body parts individually, usually once they die).
Your proposal also says that each person, with their soul, dying causes it to increase the amount of darkmatter. This means that the non-darkmatter mass of the universe will slowly run out till there is only darkmatter. No mass or energy can be destroyed or created remember, only transfered from one form to another.
Which again doesn't entirely make sense.


This is a good piece of roleplay by a character ingame maybe but it isn't how I, nor others, view the Discovery universe and I doubt it will ever become accepted as canon.

I'd definitely say that we're not devoid of that sort of thing here.

The Wilde - well, how should I put this? - they seem not to have a grasp on their very foundations. I believe that you can find videos of the cutscenes on Youtube, or you can browse through your audio files to listen to the dialogue yourself. You will see that the idea that Jonner and Blix were Wilde agents was a product of the Wilde's fevered imagination, attempting to see connections where there are, in fact, none.

They're not Nomad possessed if they're using artifacts - Daam-K'vosh artifacts won the war for the humans, they were our strongest and most weapon. Von Claussen implicitly trusted them to make sure that Trent (or anybody else, for that matter) wasn't possessed or otherwise treacherous. It's safe to say that they themselves weren't, just because they used an artifact. They're not Nomad technology.

I think Linkus your statement is full of half truths, as it seems your suggesting for sure dark matter does not constitute what supernatural beings are made up of. But you see the contradiction is in fact in the name itself "Dark Matter" its Dark we humans pursay dont know what its made of or whats its properties are. So to say ghosts cant be made of dark matter is hypocritical, so it should not be taken to literally as its seems you are doing. Nothing like this in disco would be canon your right! But the very fact, that ghost encounters in sirius would be rare would lead to the existence of ghosts becoming rumor although we they would always be there. The Dark Matter connection is just to give the ghost ships a more scientific credibility for existing in sirius.

Besides what I have written in terms of dark matter maybe a little inaccurate but this is sci fi after all, the whole of disco is based on sci fi ideas. For e.g. we fly ships based on technology which does not exist in in RL right now! My Point being my justification for ghosts existing as elements of dark matter, is a piece of sci fi just like everything else in disco. To refute it is to refute Freelancer IMO.:sleep:

Dark matter IS matter, it exists in this physical realm. We know it's there, which is proof enough that it is part of this universe, not some alternate reality.

Freelancer doesn't take known science and contradict it, apart from with some game mechanics. (Planet sizes etc)
It develops upon it.

This, contradicts it and really there is no scientific credibility with it.

It's just an attempt to get a fantasy based group into a non-fantasy based universe.

The very simple solution is to say that you aren't actually ghosts but are just using the tactic to scare your enemies. That would solve all your issues and your group might actually be accepted by the community then, instead of flamed to pieces.

Actually, dark matter is just a theory.
It's like... a physical manifestation of mankind's ignorance - a big, black, undetectable mass that exerts gravity on things around it. The name itself belies our ignorance - it's just something randomly made to fill up holes in our reasoning and observation. It's about as close to an actual physical manifestation of our ignorance as we're going to get.

I don't put much stock in the theory, it's just used to explain "inconsistencies" in gravity through our limited understandings of how it works. It's how we fill in the gaps of our knowledge. We make up remarkably silly things to explain how we think things work, instead of saying, "We just don't know," or, "This doesn't make sense to us - yet."


I think there's a lot more to be seen and understood about gravity and the universe, and that the idea of "dark matter" is rather silly. Dark matter is quite literally the Phlogiston of today.
