Well, the thing is - people have been buying the lane hacker gunship historically because they liked the looks, even though it was relatively underpowered in stats.

Frozen was right but he was also wrong. Being way too impolite is not very useful. Now, if we just ignore the excessive hatred originating from who-knows-where ...

To be honest, I would like there to be a lane hacker assault transport - or at least a sared outcast-hacker looking design, so that we could stop using the rather sturdy and unfitting pirate transport.

On the other hand, it would be irresponsible to make a compromise between having a ship and having a ship that fits. The model looks nice, artistically (I think). But if I want to fit it into the Freelancer universe, I have to close a significant fraction of my two eyes.

It could use a paint job. The general shape is relatively fine, but that doesn't mean it has to remain that way.

Well I mean, to be honest.. if I were told my LF and bomber were to be replaced with no prior consultation beforehand, I'd be pretty irked too Hribek.

In any case, yes, freelancer ships are boxy, but boxy doesn't have to equate to ugly - Terran capital ships from Freespace are a prime example, particularly enhanced with the media VPs the community has created.

The point is that the model doesn't fit into freelancer in any way, shape or form. The textures need to be darker and gritter, and the model should be more sharp and harsh looking.

My two cents.

Also, you mentioned "admins were fine with it and everything". Admins are not devs. You should've talked to Igiss and Frozen ahead of time about it, at least the second time around.

This is MY THREAD, I started for MY MODELS. You should be here to talk about technicals but all I get "mostly"
is complaints about what ship might be replaced and also how my ships are not like you would make them
if you could/did. I have to make it clear again children, I DONT HAVE AUTHORETY TO REPLACE SHIPS!
I am just making models, wheather or not they get use is no beef of mine.

And Guess what, your not the gatekeepers of what gets in and what does not so stop acting like it.
The submition of these models have nothing to do with you guys, I am trying to envolve you in the creation
so that you get some say in its look before it MIGHT be taken.

Thanks Hribek for giving some actual "Constructive Critizism" I agree that the skins are a bit too bizy.
But alas Hribek, Do to the fact that the modders for this game are also Gamers and there for too appithetic
to actually "get off thier asses" and finish it. I know Moriarty has been chomp'in at the bit to get this trans but
I have handed it over to several modders to finish and haven't got so much as a simply reply from any.

Most of the other modellers in Discovery are too busy working with new stations for 4.86. Ships aren't at all a priority right now.
Also, people can get pretty sick of finishing other people's models for them.
Finish them yourself.


Oddly, the community IS who decides whether a ship ought to be replaced, since it's the community who use it and see it every day. Faction opinions obviously have priority if it's their ship that it involves.

The people of Discovery choose how their ships should look like. So they have every right to say how they would change it, it's called criticism.


So all in all:
Stop being an ass.
Listen to what people say when they go 'I don't like it'. If a lot say that, it's a sign.
Finish your models yourself, other people have priorities that may not involve you.

PS, the model looks grand, a bit boring and the textures are god awful.
Re-texture it with FL textures and maybe make it look less...closed up really. It just gives off the impression of 'blank'.

First impression: Eww.

Second impression: At least it's better than the transport.

Third impression: Eww.

Fourth impression: You could have just resized the LH GB and added fins and saved yourself some time.

Fifth impression: Eww.



It looks like the bastard child of a gunboat, a freighter, and a fighter, without looking right for any of them. No simple changes that I can think of squarely land it in any of those classes without making it a direct copy of something already in-game... fattening the wings makes it the LH GS down to the tee, shrinking the nose and back makes it a Dagger, and shortening the wings makes it a Camara.

It is, however, better. Perhaps play through Freelancer again, paint "Freelancer ships have hard angles" on your walls, start with a shipclass in mind, and try again...? You do have skills at this, they just need to be applied properly.



As for the "heavy fighter"... it looks more like an SHF than anything else... might find a use as a Homeworld replace, I suppose, but it looks about as far from "Lane Hacker" as I can think of without getting silly.

the gunship style was pretty poor, continuing it into a fighter isn't much better, tbh. Use Freelancer texture for a start, right now it makes me think of a waste disposal vehicle a bit high tech
