There is, but still, asymmetrical designs are fine.

Docking rings negate that.

@ Jinx: Another splendid job. That Basalt is going to be heavily used when it gets in.:D

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

This is not about drag, Tenacity.
Geez.

This is about centres of gravity as opposed to centres of thrust.

To adequately maneuver you need more than one central engine, you need a series of thrusters placed at the outer edges of the ship, so to speak. Now, in order for this to work on an asymmetric ship they would have to placed asymmetrically and would have to output varied amounts of thrust proportional to the mass ratio of the side of the ship it is on to the other side. Otherwise if you thrust one way you go faster than if you thrust the other, or worse, you go spinning out of control.

Of course, being a space shooter instead of a space sim momentum isnt as high as in reality, or anywhere near as high. But asymmetrical ships are more fantasy than sci-fi.

Oh, hey, someone fills in where I'm too lazy to.
Thanks, Dan.

So, that. ^

Are we forgetting the fact that this is science fiction?

Since when have freelancer ships had all the little multidirecitonal thrusters you describe?

We probably have some kind of gravity producing manuvering fields =P

I fail to see the overwhelming advantages of drastically asymmetrical designs that would make such measures to stabilise them cost-effective.

I love 'em, Jinx. The new Touketsu and Basalt are <3.

Retired, permanently.

They are very, VERY interesting. Especially Basalt HF and that Mafic VHF remodel.

Yes.

Please.

I'm intrigued by the new Mafic model, is it supposed to rival the asymetric design of the Spatial?
