Quote:1.) Friendly can mean neutral. Basically I'm saying that you can't be hostile to them, and have to sort your reps out. Can't kill BHG and sell them there without getting on bad terms with Liberty.
Actually, I've been doing nothing but killing lawful ships (Kusari) and liberty loves me. I didn't know trading affected rep.
Quote:2.) Lets assume we changed patrols to that difficulty. Now lets say someone plays SP, or plays MP the normal way (mission running for cash). Now.. That small puny starflier faces 10 Rogues in that first mission. Boom goes starflier. Not everyone who plays is a great flyer. Those patrols HAVE to be the way they are, or it becomes TOO hard for most people to get started. We don't all have level 10 VHFs and capships. Plus, NPCs aren't meant to be the equal of a player. Players are MEANT to win. Such is the same in Vanilla Freelancer. Now since you completely ignored my example of a BS, assume your fighting another player. Cruiser vs. Cruiser. Your even with skill, in the same ship. But one tries cruising away. You fire a cruise disrupter, it stops him, but turns all the ships around you to red. All of the sudden your shield is gone because 15+ NPCs just shot at it, with all guns blazing and no energy requirements that they have to follow. Very quickly, your dead. You won't stand a chance in capships against a legion of NPCs if we implemented this. Then if we rebalanced capships to be able to take that much damage and not die, normal player fighters won't ever have a chance at defeating them. Ta-da, capships become gods, fighters are no longer used, pvp is bugged if you ever use a missile or CD, dooming the fight, and running missions without a level 10 VHF or capship becomes impossible. Congrats, you've ruined the game. Done with this topic now?
Firstly, in the first mission, trent had several allies. Secondly, if it's true that the NPCs have no energy requirements, then I see your point. Still, SOMEHOW most of the fights in the game need to be made more difficult. I know it's possible because the NPCs in the border worlds are hard from what I hear...we just need to make the ones in the inner worlds difficult too. C'mon, I should not be having this easy a time wasting massive patrols of kusari navy ships on my own. Even if the initial suggestion isn't feasible, somehow make the non-border world encounters a bit harder.
Quote:3.) While your playing, please try to remember, Freelancer starts with low-level NPCs and goes to high-level NPCs. The lower mines are meant for those NPCs. Higher-damage are meant for stronger NPCs. In Vanilla, there were NO mines suited to hurting player ships. Now we have this nuc mine. On one hand your complaining that they don't do enough damage, on the other your saying this mine that DOES do enough damage, is making all the other mines obsolete, which would be obsolete anyway. Make up your mind, and get on with it. There really is nothing to complain about here. If we didn't have the Nuc mine, the others still wouldn't be used. Price is determined on the weapon's usefulness. Its expenses, deal with that. Its expensive because it aids you heavily. Enemy fighter + Nuc Mine = Dead. Hence, Nuc Mine = Expensive.
But most mines don't do much to even low level NPC shields.
YOu just have to learn to hit the NPC's with the mines right. It is INCREDIBLY difficult, yes, but it CAN be done. It's sort oif like using the Flak gun for taking out fighters-it CAN be done, but it's difficult. The rewards, however, are spectacular. Of course, the Flak cannons don't suck ammo.

Kusari is at war with Bretonia. Bretonia is allied with Liberty. Killing Kusari will help your Liberty rep.

The ways you make ships harder, is increased patrol difficulty levels when making the system. This will end up changing the AI's skill, loadout, and sometimes ship. Igiss already increased AI skills in general for all difficulty levels. Your way will simply unbalance it all.

Answer the question already. Have you used Nuclear Mines?
I was flying these days in Chugoku with my dragon gunboat, then shooted a cruise disruptor in a trader. The trader was stopped, but, all of a sudden, the blood dragon npcs started to shoot at me. Stupid npcs.

Interesting.

Then do it THAT way (but focus more on offensive power). Really, I just want the AI to be more of a challenge, exactly how it gets done doesn't really bother me.

No, I have not, but nuclear mines should not be the only mines capable of doing anything.
You keep saying that you know the Border World NPCs are more difficult, instead of whinging about the Inner World NPCs just go out and take on the outer World ones instead. It's the simplest solution.
Except you can't do that until you've achieved very good weapons, with a great shield and ship. Before you get this, you can't take on the more challenging missions. If, before you get these good weapons/ships, you try to take on harder enemies, you just get met with impenetrable shields. What I am saying is that the DEFENSIVE capabilities of NPCs scale nicely with level-but the offensive does not.
