"Hey Kurt"

The barkeep calls down the bar to an aged scruffy looking man.

"Hey Jed"

The man replies before letting his head fall into his palm leant on the bar. Kurt seemed distracted and demoralised, but nothing Jed hadn't seen before. Jed finished cleaning some pint glasses, threw the towel he'd been using over his shoulder and approached Kurt a way down the bar.

"Rough innings?"

"No"

"The wife?"

"I got the promotion"

"Well this calls for a celebration!"

Jed reached into a small cabinet behind him but Kurt waved at him to stop before he could take out what he'd been going for.

"It's the Crater, and the lads. I wasn't cut out for a desk job Jed"

Kurt let out a sigh of remorse, and Jed's face turned from sympathy to aggrivation to patience.

"Just think of the family Kurt, your doin good by you, and that deserves a drink. Or I can keep the Winchester bottled up back there and you can mope for an hour."

"The fourty?"

Jed nodded and smiled, and Kurt couldn't hide the rise Jed managed to get out of him and let out a smile too.

"Great! Heh, heh, heh"

Jed turned and carried on in getting out the bottle. As Jed twisted the top of the bottle open with a corkscrew a man wearing a brown leather flight jacket, dark cargo pants and high top boots made of canvas plastic alloy plates walked in. Around his waist he wore a metal pistol holster on a loose leather belt. In his hand he held a few leaflets and handbooks that he seemed barely interested in, the man was clearly just looking for a drink.
