So, basically, after about two hours of forum surfing and wiki searching, I still have no bloody clue about motivations behind Zoner's actions are. What drives them to live on the edge of space? Why this insistance on neutrality? Why not Zoidberg? So, I was wondering if some people could help me out. I'm interested in known what drives a Zoner to be a zoner, and what the goal of a typical Zoner is in life. I know there are a lot of diffrent types of zoners out there, so feel free to describe the motivations of more than one group of 'em. People with Zoner or non-Zoner character are free to answer - getting an outside opinion from someone who hasn't experienced the RP first hand would actually help a lot.

So, What does a Zoner want?

Let it burn.

Freedom. Not having anyone else tell you what you can or cannot do. Not being oppressed by a government.

Victor Cross' drive is to make life better for his family (primary) and also help other Zoners (secondary). William Cross' drive is the same, but he enjoys traveling and refuses to take a desk job. Lloyd Sienar became a Zoner to escape Bretonia, and has toyed with the idea of joining the SCRA as he sees their insistence on treating all citizens equally as a better form of government than the houses use.

The goals of a typical Zoner? I guess they'd be just to survive and enjoy a life that isn't controlled by another.

zoners are the civilians that have no house affiliations. - for the most part - they want to be left alone to do what it is a daily duty is. - a mechanic wants his wages, money for food, vacations - and a wonderful family for example.

you could also say "what do civilians want" - they want a lot - but you usually cannot pin it down to something specific.

the term "zoners" is applied to them from others .. but in truth, zoners are nothing but "people" that disliked the goverments in the inner core so much to take the next logical step and go away. the normal zoner does not struggle for survival - the normal zoner has a daily routine. - the normal freeport staff deals with brawls, injuries, maintenance and pricing. - the normal zoner captain cares for getting his stuff where it needs to go - in time. - zoner families care for the education of their kids, career movements and other stuff.

in a way - they are not very different to house civilians - but while house civilians might still complain about their goverment - zoners have left that behind and probably complain about how badly the freeports are run.

Zoners want peace and neutrality. They are like the swiss only dif is that FL has no banks. If FL had banks they would wash criminal cash to legal all day.

Maybe for start you can ask yourself, dont you like lurking in the dark, quiet and comfortable place to do "things" you like........ok, I'm kidding. :D
But here is what I thought about Zoner, they are more like Shaolin Monks, live in remote places, peace lover, very spritual, seeking peace and harmony, yet they develop deadly weapon

Every Zoner has a story, and an individual, personal reason, for choosing this life.

As Daedric said, it boils down to wanting pure freedom, but even that really doesnt apply to every Zoner out there. We are those who choose to make our homes on space's ragged edge, the true pioneers, the last great explorers, the pilgrims of what is yet to be known.

At the core of that, is the personal story and drive of the individual.

Dane, for example, was a kid who couldnt sleep - he was a freespirit, and left to space once he found it was more a home to him than any place he had known. He ran cargo, smuggled cargo, then embraced a kinda zen ideal, shed all the things that held him back, and just embraced the idea of pure freedom - nothing holding him back.
Truth was, he had managed to forget a deep trauma from destroying a perfect love - he coudnt sleep because of deep fear of revisiting those memories in nightmares - he left to space to run away from the painful memories - so much so that he had been able to convince himself that his sleep problem existed since childhood, and that his memories of the event were completely buried - as long as he kept moving, kept running, he could continue to forget. But, standing still, overwhelmed with stress, anger, depression, he finally remembered, and is still trying to make peace with his past.

Every Zoner is unique.

Zoners are the silent reinforcement of freelancers, mercs and pirates. So they are can use faction guns even they got a "no" inRP. So they don't have to stick to normal civilian guns.

Zoners are odd.

I don't think Dancing Bears would be classified as deadly. I classify him as hippy.
