I have been reading the forums a lot and have often seen mention of cruise disrupters being used to outmaneuver your opponent. I'm just a little unsure of what they do in combat and how to use them to your advantage. I only use them to pop mines and keep people from running away. In order to help other PvP challenged people like myself:

How do you use cruise disrupters to outmaneuver your opponents or use them in a fight in general?

Mainly, you use them when they EK.

You know when they turn, while heading in another direction? If you CD them while doing this, they'll drop engine kill, it can give you a massive advantage, and you can also use them to blow up their mines/missiles, doing -massive- damage to their ships if timed right.

Well, CDs are really useful in Combat, specially against Spammers!

- Against Mines, Missiles, Torpedos: When your opponent fires one of these, fire a CD right away. If you're fast enough you'll blow the Mine/Missile in their face, so the one who fires them is the one that gets damage, not you!

- Against Larger Ships that try to EK-Turn: CD knocks the ship out of Engine-Kill, so, when fighting a Gunboat in a Bomber, and the Gunboat tries to Engine-kill and turn, you can fire a CD Mid-turn so it'll get kicked out of EK and won't be able to turn completely.

- When you cba to hit someone with Guns(!): Let's say You're fighting an Eagle in your Roc, and you've CDed one of his Mines and one of his missiles, so he's flying around with a silver of hull left... Ever noticed CD does some Hull Damage? This will work best if you're using Mosquito. Take the shield out and fire a CD or two. The Eagle will go Boom!:P

Other than these, the only other usage of CD that I know is what it's named after: Cruise Disruptor.

Primarily, as Kanga said, cruise disruptors will cause your opponent's engines to "kick back on" if he's using engine kill.

Oftentimes, larger ships such as gunboats or cruisers will engine kill and then turn towards you while they're still moving away - this lets them overcome the disadvantage of having a much slower turn rate when fighting against more manuverable enemies. If you cruise disrupt them when they try this little tactic, it will usually cause copious amounts of swearing and desk-banging as the pilot tries helplessly to keep you in his crosshairs.

Additionally, cruise disruptors can be used to prematurely detonate most mines, missiles, and torpedoes (no longer works on nova torpedoes, though, so bear that in mind). Train cruise disruptors work great for this as they have a very large radius, making it easier to force detonate either your mines/missiles or those of your opponent - but mosquito disruptors work nearly as well and have less tendency to piss off nearby NPC's.

If your opponent is spamming mines, typically spamming cruise disruptors back at him will cause his mines to blow up right as they leave his ship, and he'll end up killing himself. Same thing with missiles, if you can time your disruptor to hit right after a target launches missiles at you.

Also, if you are on something as agile as a LF or HF, you can easily tail slow VHFs and bombers, just stay behind them and if they try to use engine kill to turn on you, or drop a mine fire a CD and you'll be able to stay behind the target most of the time.
Plus, but that kind of has been said above, if you are jousting, fire a CD once you are half-turned to your opponent to end his turn prematurely. This greately increases survivability of larger, slower fighters against faster ones like the Eagle.

Thanks for the fast responses guys:Dyou're so helpful

I was aware of mine sabotage but hadn't though of missiles, and the engine kill disruption sounds really frustrating! Especially since I primarily fly light fighters.

Killing someone with a CD just adds insult to injury:P

It kills engine kill. How much it might give?

Well in certain situations it turns very "overpowered" ships to be totaly hopless. For example Kusari dessie, which , if not allowed to turn on you, all can do is die. Even to werewolf.

Also cd is good as defensive weapon, and detonates mine traps you laid. (Mine trap =/= mine lottery)

Being more universal this thing is better for chracters which are more likely fight 1 on 1 than in group fights. For example mercinaries. Also prevents targets from running away and helps to kill them, and later get "Q_Q" messeges from the target in "//".

But CD is almost usless in group fights.

I beg to differ.

CD may also be used to detonate nova torpedoes

If you can time this right and have one of your friends fire one into the middle of a furball and then detonate it...

well lets just say there will be a mix of reactions, mostly yelling at the fool who just slayed half his group.

But if coordinated right, and with a few screamers (and I can only imagine this being done with voice comms), you can take out 3 or 4 enemies at once.

Also if you are fighting a bomber that's foolish enough to let one fly when your pointing at him, have it blow up in their face.

According to Tenacity CDs no longer detonate Nova torps, so, which is it?
