Well folks, there a few things that I have been obsrving lately, and wish to bring up to the Disco community.

I know that this community is filled with intelligent individuals, so it bothers me when I see a lot of Misplaced anger.

Yes, misplaced anger.

For the sake of argument, I'm going to use Liberty for an example. Its what I know and can speak about confidently.

Lately there has a been a rash of incidents that have not been the pinnacle of role play or fairness.

In RP, I can understand that your character would be Mucho P.O's that their Law abiding, civilian, not committing a crime character got harassed/destroyed/feelings hurt, and I
can understand very heated messages to the LPI/LSF/LN. In your characters eyes there is no difference between an independent player and a faction player, they are all the same.

Now OORp, people need to realize a few universal truths.

First off, Factions have no control over independent players.

Secondly, there is almost nothing Factions can do about independent players who act out.

So, having established these facts:

Why is it the factions bear the anger and consequences for something that wasn't their fault?

This boggles my mind.

Well, factions do not control independent players... But those players' actions still can affect the official factions' diplomatic negotiations and the state of affairs on the server, can't they? If they can't, that will restrict the indies' RP. But if they can, indies must take responsibility for their actions as well, because there're many other people out there, playing for official factions. in my opinion - it is the risk of the faction, responsibility on the risk base.
it concerns especially military and police factions, because people think schematically - there are not independent cops and soldiers.
but not only them. see what happens when independent zoner does something stupid, it results in bad picture of the whole zoners.
and again, it is the risk of the faction. you can't do anything with it.

Yeah, I was kinda going with the angle "OMG My ship got destroyed, so now I hate all LN", with it being done OORp, carrying the anger beyond the IN rp angle.

Hack, you hit the nail on the head, however, the nail bent, mainly because you were not hitting it correctly.

FR2 and FR5 can both act as controls.

However, when people complain about this and that, no-one offers SS evidence which allows the factions to do anything. Really. If it is irritating you that much how did you not take a single SS?

I doubt it's going to change unless the factions actually gain some rights to control independent players more efficiently. I'm pretty much annoyed that even more experienced players believe that the [RM] should be blamed for an indy Mjolnir showing up in the Omicrons, since that in-RP should be so, but in an OORP way or in general, we can do nothing about it, it's pointless to submit such a discussion.

Since everyone sees the official factions (especially house militaries) as if they stand above indies and that's not going to change, I'd suggest that faction rights are increased to have control over independent players, such as being able to take ships away from them and such, even if it'd only apply to house police forces and militaries. Would make more sense than re-binding the general view of every new member that comes here as well as imo it could also help sorting out for example capships being in the wrong hands.

Yeah, It seems a little silly to blame the Factions for the actions of others that they do not have control over. Add to the fact that the blame and anger is now fixed on the factions and not the individual who perpatrated the action.

It depends on the ranking of the Official member. If it's for example Hale. He can order every single navy pilot around even if it's a indie navy dread.

I recommend factions to use the /showinfo show all official faction members have their rank shown to others.
