I didn't. You must be soooo easy to wind up.

Factions, cap whores and CapVIII's were around a long time before mining (funnily enough) and they managed fine without it before.

We managed fine without cash transfers, renames, restarts, custom ships, guns and equipment to. Hey, how about we revert to 4.82? I had a muuuuch funnier time then as a =BSG=.

Whoever came up with this bright idea...

Also, it would increase miner mobility which would encourage pirates to spread out more.
What do you all think?

I'd like that as well.
The concept of extremely expensive ore that you haul only once per hour or so invites for pirates to make crazy demands and miners to do everything possible to avoid loosing the ore.

So more frequent trips with lower value ore should reduce this a bit.

That said I never mined.... ever, trading works just as well as always and without really picking routes (i.e. searching for them in spoiler programs) and without blockade running or smuggling I make some 15-20 mil/hour on house corporation runs.
Trading also has the advatange of being able to do it at any time and pause at any time. Have 15 mins free waiting for someone/something? No problem log on trader and do short run.

And have you noticed that since mining there is firm decrease in cardamine / slave trade afaik? Guess why - everybody is damn pirate!

You can haul for miners, that's also good

Or you can mine the transports, you shoot it and ore pops out

To expand on this idea, 2-3 trips per hour implies a mining time of approximately 5-10 minutes for a transport by a single player. With this system most of the player time is spent moving the ore (i.e. trading). If we were do to this, I'd recommend just remove mining altogether as it is no different to trading. You buy the commodity from a base near the mining area and sell it where ever it is sold.

One of the key reasons for mining was an alternative to trading - allowing people to spend most of their time mining rather than trading. Yes it is boring but it is differently boring to trading.

*clears throat and throws 2c into pot*

Personally I think that using the mods balance to restrict the amount of rule breakers isn't going to work. Think about it please admins- these poor saps that are F1'ing at the first sight of a pirate do it because:

A) if they lose their cargo they have wasted alot of time
B) if they lose their cargo/get pirated they will lose credits

Now mining is nerfed. Same people are mining lady dady da- then wait a pirate appears on scanners. They will still F1 because:

A) if they lose their cargo they have wasted alot of time
B) if they lose their cargo/get pirated they will lose credits

So it doesn't really accomplish much because the kind of people that break rules don't really care as long as they don't lose fake money or whatever.

The mining system should not be balanced according to what rule breakers do.

Quote:[10:10:55 PM] (Anonymous): mining was the best thing for the economy
[10:10:58 PM] Anonymous): reduce traders
[10:11:09 PM] Marshal: yeah it was the golden age

(on a side note- if the mining nerf has something to do with the high taxes from pirates wont the worth of money just increase so we will still be losing out just as much even if their taxes decrease? If it has nothing to do with that just ignore this whole little bracket thing)

I disagree. With this system when filling a mining ship takes an hour it's quite refreshing to stop shooting the rocks and go for a little trip. That's why miners are reluctant to hire transports.
If trader spent more time flying forth and back than he spent mining, he would be willing to hire a transports since they are bigger and more effective for the task. It would encourage team work and player interaction.
Back in Penny days it took about 20 minutes to fill a 5k transport so miners where screaming into the system chat for transports so they can get back to mining.
Also if the time needed for filling up a ship and time needed for the delivery were equal it would also push the price of ore sold by miners down and become more attractive for transport pilots. It is not really worth buying ore now if you make 3k per unit as a hauler when you risk loosing cargo worth 10-13k a piece.
