So first let's nerf trading. Then let's nerf mining. Hmmm what else makes money? Nothing? I have a suggestion - why don't we just nerf the entire game? No-one will break the rules anymore!

Oh and let's just stick this topic into flood because even though the community has a valid point it is irrelevant because.... just because.

Due to massive amount of Q_Q that led to the other threads being locked, I didn't get time to post my opinion in the other ones, so, Here it goes:

Mining Must be More Profitable than Trading, Because, a Trader is moving around 6 - 10 systems per run and can avoid the known Pirates even with flying off the map! A Miner? Must stay in the Mining fields and will be 'Easy Target'. So, More Risk = More Profit!
Even if you nerf Mining to 1/3 Trading Profit, Miners will still be targeted by Pirates more often than Traders, cause Miners are the Easy Targets! A Pirate can F1 his Ship in the Mining field and come back half an hour later to pirate 4 Miners. Same Pirate can't F1 his ship in middle of the Trade Lane to come back half an hour later and shoot down 4 Traders... See the difference?
Traders Can:
  • AFK-Trade
  • RP on the Move and still have the same profit
  • Read books while Trading
  • Make same profit no matter if they're flying on full manual or using 'Select JH, F2, F3, Select JH, F2, F3'
Miners Can:
  • AFK-Mine
  • RP while Mining and still have the same profit
  • Read books while Mining
  • Make same profit no matter if they're shooting rocks or not -owait...
Although, if the Balance Team believe Mining is making an 'Unbalanced' Profit, they can 'nerf' it a bit, But lowering it to Roughly Same profit as Trading is not a logical move.

P.S: To everyone who are 'freaking out' over Mining being nerfed: How about you go and get some rest? Go spend a few hours with friends or family, We're talking about a 10 years old Spaceship Game afterall! No need to go "ZOMGNOTHEYNERFEDMININGQ_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q" And after you're back from your short rest, If you Really want to do something about this nerf, post a reasonable argument on Why Mining should be more profitable than trading, not going all Q_Q and raeging, cause that won't really help!

How long does it take now in a normal field for a single miner to fill a 5k transport?

I have no idea that's why I'm asking, was getting the impression it takes over 30 mins?

Wasn't mining supposed to be group activity? I think it makes sense that is has to be more profitable than trading to attract both, miners and traders. Mercs too eventually.

Less than that i think. An average miner would mine a full 5k hold wouldnt take over 30.

Depends on the Field, I haven't been around Mining fields much often lately, but IIRC it was something like this;
  • Gold Ore in Dublin: Roughly Around One hour for the 'Not-Really-Fast' type of Miners.
  • Niobium Ore in Tau-23: Somewhere around 40 minutes or so for an average Miner.
  • Cobalt Ore in Omega-7: Takes nearly same as above, maybe 5 minutes less.
  • Silver Ore in Omega-7: Roughly around half an hour, and this is the Ore with fastest drops I know.
And note that All these are only If and If No one comes around, so you'll have to take your hand off the mouse to say Hi. (It sometimes took me around 50mins to fill a Mining Ship's 2450 Hold with Cobalt when others were around and we were RPing)

That does seem a lot to me.

Could be tuned to some 40-30 mins. By increasing drop rate and lowering buyout price for ore.

Yes it would increase the amount of "trading" and decrease the amount of sitting and mining.... which in turn will spread people and pirates around a bit maybe?

Voted Yes.

Currently it's less profitable than trading in my opinion. I'm not asking for the changes to be completely reversed. I would have no problem with the new prices if they would have brought higher yields along to simply make people travel more often instead of killing off that part of the economy.

edit: and since I see Mjolnirs posts: A trained miner can probably do it in somewhere around 45 minutes. At least it was like that the last time I watched the clock while mining. That was several months ago though.

Please click the link in my signiture to the Syndicate, as I can't link in this post due to my needing a proxy.

I'm not going to go into details as to why, but this faction idea will die right now with this mining nerf. As will my last remaining interest in this game. At the moment I have only been playing on Discovery to pirate the miners in Omega-7. I absolutely love it.

Thanks. Thanks alot. As andrew said, a trading buff would have been much more effective.
