I'll brifly summarize things from the first thread.

Freelancer was originally designed for fighters, freighters weren't thought much as a combat vessels. As a result, control of capital ships, which appeared later in mods, is somewhat deficient and inconvinient.

Eventually, the solution was found how to make keyboard to steer ship instead of camera in turret view, which makes control of capital ships much better if not everything to desire. This is very easy to implement itself, but obviously it makes capitals much better and changes balance in various aspects.

So feel free to express your opinion if this feature is wanted and worth the work needed to keep balance (and possibly other work related to changes). Do you want to be able to control capitals better or you prefer snacing them easier more, do you like flying and fighting capitals like ships allows by their construction not limited by control inefficiency, or you are accustomed to current patterns of combat and don't want changes.

*Smiles* This wasn't about abusing this beautiful new opportunity (which everybody posted liked) and everybody were in agreement that it shouldn't be used unofficially. Where is cheating in that? There is ability, new ability that turret mode could be made so they one can steer the ship in it, easily made, not WIP, and some discussion about to what it might lead. And nobodyeven intended to rewrite anything, especially if not in the mod.

But other mods might use it!

Then we won't be unique!
We'll only have our large playerbase and draconian ruleset to fall back on!

Yeah, might happen, in some time, it will be the only mod which will use nerfed cap control. Unique.

Finally one sensible Rickroller not using the annoying link. I was launching the task manager as I was about to click there.

I will say, a couple devs did see it. A lot of other people, too, who may test it. Its not necessarily dead just because the thread was hammered.

I believe it was Hirbek who said what I figured was closest to the answer "guys, go try it out, see if it works, and we'll then see about incorporating it"

Dev work is a long process.

Quote:consider, than just putting it in ... It does seriously unbalance entire ship classes.
This was point out in the first post. It really does. It was discussion and maybe I did mistake posting the link to changed exe (I thought about it while was making the post), but it weren't empty words. It is and can be done. And yes, exactly, it's not a simple thing to put on. Because of the class balance.

Well, I answered "exactly". This wasn't about "hey guys, add it to the mod right now because it's possible" or "give me right to cheat with it", but because I think this is right thing to make the game better and to get more fun flying a capship.

I think Admins can still see it if it's invisible, not killed. And it was said much in that thread already to be enough for some consideration. Including that this change makes serious change of balance and consequent work on rebalancing if it's ever going to be made real.

Yes, and we are test monkeys sometimes.
