The Alcatraz depot lounge and pub

Nathan stepped off of the shuttle which had landed at Alcatraz and took a quick look around. He'd never actually been to Alcatraz and quite honestly had no idea where to go. As he wandered the dark hallways looking for the ship dealer he passed several Rogues whose appearances suggested that they'd been hitting the cardi a bit hard lately. He tightened his grip on his briefcase.

As a somewhat respectable-looking Rogue passed him, Nathan stopped him and asked, "You wouldn't happen to know where the ship dealer is, would you?" "It's right down there." The rogue replied, pointing down another hallway that was absolutely indistinguishable from the rest by Nathan's untrained eye. I hate having to visit new places... Nathan thought. He wasn't exactly prone to straying from his comfort zone voluntarily. ...But I REALLY want one of those Hyenas. Nathan's eye had first been drawn to the ship when he happened to see a Rogue pirating in Galileo the day before. He wasn't about to let a simple thing like getting lost in a new base get in between him and his ship.

He walked into the large hangar where the ships were housed and was struck by the size of it. Considering the size of the depot, he hadn't expected to find this much space devoted to ship storage. He walked up to the salesman and spoke with him briefly. "That'll be 1.5 million," the vendor said. The vendor's eyes widened as Nathan placed his briefcase on the vendor's desk and it snapped open. "So that would be... 150 Sirius Credit Cards if I'm not mistaken?" "I... Uh..." The vendor fumbled with a desk drawer and pulled out an old-fashioned calculator device and started frantically punching in numbers. Nathan laughed quietly to himself. He'd never been one to trust Neural Net entry. He new a few good Hackers and knew what they were capable of. Guess they're no better equipped here than back home... He thought.

"Just tell me when the ship's ready, buddy. I'll be in the pub." Nathan smirked and walked away. Now if he could only find his way to the pub, his dramatic exit would be perfect... "Uh... hey! Whatever your name is!" The vendor shouted after Nathan. "What?" Nathan stopped. "The pub's the other way!" Nathan stood still for a moment then slowly turned towards the other hallway. Damnit. He walked onward, this time a bit less confidently.

Feeling proud of himself at having found the pub on his own (minus one small tip from the ship vendor), Nathan sidestepped a dark figure as she scurried out the door in the opposite direction. What the hell... Nathan thought. He shrugged and entered, glancing about quickly. Finally. He thought to himself. Something that Padua beats Alcatraz at. The pub wasn't exactly luxurious, but it would do nicely for a bit of downtime while he waited for his new ship to be outfitted. He found a stool next to the bar and took a seat. The bartender eyed him warily. "You new 'round here?" He asked. "Yeah, kinda. Name's Nathan. Nice to meet you." Nathan extended his hand to the man. The bartender stared at him for a moment as if he didn't know what to make of the simple gesture. He didn't return it.

"Just tell me what you'll have, kid." The bartender retorted. Nathan spun around in his stool and looked about the dark room. "I'll have what he's having." Nathan said as he pointed to a guy sitting in the back next to a girl and an old man. "Bretonian Port it is." The bartender turned and busied himself with preparing the drink. Nathan sat staring at the table as he waited when he realized that he recognized the man with his back turned. It was Clif Thurston, one of the Liberty Rogues' Underbosses. Nathan breathed a sigh of relief. He'd been fearing a run-in with either Sylpheed or Eva Jones since he'd arrived, but neither would go too hard on Nathan so long as Clif was around. Or so Nathan hoped. "'Ere ya are, boy." The bartender slid the brew across the counter to Nathan. Nathan took a quick swig and stood to make his way to the table in the back.

"How's it going, Clif?" Nathan greeted Clif as he took a seat at the already crowded table. He winced as he saw the all-too-familiar form of a Cardamine apparatus lying on the table in front of the old man. He still hadn't shaken his horrible childhood memories of how the stuff had ruined his family. The old man glared at Nathan as if he'd just said something dirty about his mother; Nathan took a note of it and scooted away from him slightly.

"How's it going, Clif?" Nathan greeted Clif.

Clif started upon hearing his name and watched the man take a chair at his table. His mind raced to identify the man, he had always tried to remember his Rogues' names... A Padua Rogue! He settled back into his seat and nodded to the newcomer, "Boys, this is Nathan Hathorne. He leads them in Galileo" He looked back to Nathan and echoed the man's question to himself, " 'How's it goin?' " After several seconds of silence, he seemed to snap to and looked at Nathan, "I'm not sure, to be perfectly honest."

He wasn't sure how to answer the question any further and turned back to his beer and took a drink. The alcohol seemed to help him gather his wits, because he looked back to Nathan and asked, "But that's not a concern, how's Galileo treating you?" Clif grinned and added, "Need some pharmaceuticals?" He punctuated the quip with a toke on his dying joint.

Nathan stared at Clif for a few awkward seconds, wondering about his response. "I'm not too sure?" What kind of answer is that? Whatever, I'm sure it's a personal problem. Realizing that he'd been sitting there silently for a good five seconds, Nathan abruptly answered. "Oh, fine, fine. And no thanks, we keep an ample supply at Padua." Nathan retorted, rolling his eyes slightly at Clif's attempt to push his buttons. Nathan couldn't help but notice the looks on the rest of the party's faces. He must have interrupted something by sitting there. Nathan looked between the two strangers a few times and settled on the girl.

"Hey, Nathan. What's your name?" "Diana." She replied bluntly. Guess she's not in the mood to talk. Nathan thought to himself. He drained the rest of his drink and signaled to the bartender to bring him another. "So, I just bought a Hyena." The rest of the party suddenly straightened up. Finally, something they could relate to. Maybe this kid wasn't so bad after all.

Hubert Zlob was sitting at his table. He was drunken like a dog, murmling something to himself, while doors opened and two blonde girls came in. They were smiling louder than normal people smile, and acting little frenetically, like they were on Cardamine. Hubert was watching them, then stood up and went to their direction.
,,Heya, prin.. prin..cesses... have *coughs*.. a drink with me"
One of them, obviously having more alcohol then other one, just started to laugh, while other just arranged her hair and told to Hubert:
,,heh.. you know, we don't like to mess with you boys.. we just came here for to refuel, then we'v got some slaves on Niverton waiting for us to be loaded, and then we head towards Malta..."
Hubert started to laugh: ,,Well okay, mah' beauties... i suppose ya need some escort, aren't ya ?"
They look on each other. ,,Hmm... let us see, you know what... pay us a drink and we will decide later.."
Hubert ordered few coctails. ,,Okay, mah' beauties... i suppose ya heard of Long Island Ice Tea... aren't ya?"

They started to chuckle in this high girlie style, exactly what Hubert hates at women.
But he had enough alcohol in his blood to withstand it.. then started to think... maybe it's not that bad idea at all to go back to the Lanes, though..

Assassins? Wierd question. Diana whispered, obviously perturbed. I think as you grow more important and stuff, you attract that sort of stuff....the best way would be to kill off your enemy first, aye?

She luxuriously stretched out her legs and took a swig of her drink, looking at the new comers.

Clif finished his joint and focused intently on crushing the roach on the table. Over Diana's shoulder, he watch Hubert, the ladies man, enjoying himself. Clif sighed and tried not to think about the camera that he had hidden near the Behest.

He resolved to enjoy himself, and for that, he would need to get stinking drunk. The thought wasn't even completed by the time his mug was, and he called for another. "Hell, round for everybody on me," Clif shouted out. He received his next beer and immediately dove into the dark alcohol.

The night passes and, passed out, Clif is quietly robbed of any cash and carried to his room.

David walks into the bar, and is surprised to see it so full. On the last few occasions he has been, it was practically empty; with only the Bartender and a couple of strangers lurking about.

Scanning the room, he spots Hubert; with a couple of girls way out of his league. He decides that those girls would prefer the company of someone with a little more intelligence, and someone who was able to stand after a few drinks.

Passing the table where Clif and Diana are sitting, he approaches the girls from behind.

'Hello there ladies,' he said. 'Might I buy you a drink?'

The girls giggle, as Hubert glares a drunken challenge from behind their backs.

'No thanks,' the taller of the two replied. 'This man, Robert bought us some.'

'Robert eh?' he smirked. 'So what brings you lovely ladies to Alcatraz?' he asked.

'We're refuelling before we set out to Niverton. Then we're taking some slaves to Malta.' answered the taller one again.

'I-I'm giving em an guard!' barked Hubert. 'There's no need for ya 'ere David.'

Hubert wrapped his arms around the girls. The smaller one giggled, but the taller of the two looked slightly repulsed - as Hubert needed them to keep him standing.

'Malta eh?' replied David thoughtfully. 'Will you be wanting a bit more protection? I ain't been up to Malta for a while, might be a fun trip.'

'Sure, the more the merrier.' the smaller one giggled.

Hubert glares angrily at David, as the girls announce their preparations.

Hubert kept observing whole situation.. oh yes, his girls were gone. David took them in his style, phew..
He scratched his beard, than just tried to sit on the chair, but his landing maneuer failed, and Hubert felt down. David and chicks ignored everything happening around them, so he managed to reach finaly his seat, on the second try.
,,Oh my.. i need a coffee" he murmled to himself..

Diana sipped at her drink thoughtfully, and shrugged Hubert off, causing him to fall on the floor without support. She looked at David, sizing him up, and then recognized him as one of her mates in the Rogues.

"How's it goin' Dave" she says curtly, resuming her seat.

Following Clif's uncouth departure, a dark hooded figure walks into the Alcatraz bar. He takes a chair near the corner of the room after ordering a reinforced wine. The Man seems to already be familiar with the bartender, who calls him by his first name. "Your drink, Dervin." He whips out a datapad from a dingy jacket pocket and begins working on something intently. For the moment, he seems to ignore the clatter and clamour in the background of the bar. The wine sits untouched next to him, forgotten amidst his work.
