It was confirmed to be 819 at the start of 2011, and Igiss always heavily hinted that the Sirius calendar syncs with ours for simplicities sake, so people would know the date. What about people dating posts using Sirius dates, for diaries, journals and story posts? How is anyone supposed to know what the date is if it's not synced?

The lore dates can be shifted up to match the super delayed release of 4.86.

Well, I was led to believe, through various reading here, that it was actually 819 "again" or whatever you want to say, but, obviously, Dab would know a lot better than I would....

I agree about syncing up the dates, but if we're not going to do it, then let's not do it.

Right now, it's like we're half in and half out....and the entire situation is confuzing for everyone.

Can I see this in Admin green?

I don't know who's right currently. Igiss said 2010 it's 818. Server sync means for me that every year the RP year is increased. (So we would have 820 now):

' Wrote:Yes, that's right. We are in 818 A.S. right now. Server universe will synch to that one day, you know:)

Marbug said it's 819

pinned (outdated?) FL timeline:

' Wrote:817 A.S. - Present day (Discovery).

And let me quote you:

' Wrote:2.) .86 is released in lore as being the beginning of 819 A.S. Unless everyone thinks the idea of going back in time a year is better than simply extending a year for a few months, I would suggest not considering it 819 A.S.

From the Rheinland lore thread:

' Wrote:This post is dedicated to the events happening in Rheinland in 818 A.S. (prior to the 4.86 release).
Which means to me, "that happened in 4.85/818".

To be honest, I give a damn about the year, but before anyone says "your RP is wrong/ooRP" because of the wrong year, I'd like to have one official decission.

I roleplay as it is 820 A.S. right now. If some people want to erase a whole year of roleplay, I won't follow them.

The year is...

I'm really tempted to make another pirate thread just to offset how bad (I wanted to use stronger language) it is if we can't agree on what yea the game is.

OK. We base a a year on the planet earth, remember earth?, is the orbital period of the Earth moving around the sun.

OK. We got a lot of planets, so we cant' do that amy more or we'll have a definition of a "year" for every different system. That ain't happening.

OK. We're simple people, we like simple. We love simple. We need simple. For the love of merciful powers that be, lets make the game reflect an Earth calendar year please? Let'€™s say its in memory of those blown to atoms and making us fly out to Sirius in the first place.

In the end, many don't care why.....they just want to know what year it is.

Agreeing with Boots here, whos to say Sirius years run at the same rate as ours? Regardless of what it is, I'm under the impression it is 819 A.S.

All my chars are RPing in 820 since all my chars last year were RPing in 819 and so on. On another hand, it really does't matter...

The concept of a year is not calculated by the amount of time it takes for the planet to complete the circle around its sun but with atomic clocks or whatever people use on this era. So if the whole Sirius is using clocks which are tuned at the same way, then we can safely assume that everyone has a similar concept of time.

same.

due to the .86 delay they should just fixed the dates in the lore/infocards from 818 to 819.

so almost everything would fit now.

You referenced a highly sensitive, and universally accurate device:

Quote: The principle of operation of an atomic clock is not based on nuclear physics, but rather on atomic physics and using the microwave signal that electrons in atoms emit when they change energy levels. Early atomic clocks were based on masers at room temperature. Currently, the most accurate atomic clocks first cool the atoms to near absolute zero temperature by slowing them with lasers and probing them in atomic fountains in a microwave-filled cavity.

Disco wiki doesn'€™t even mention this in any shape or form:

Quote:There were no results matching the query.

Please, dear God SpaceTime I am not mocking you in any Webster'€™s dictionary meaning of the word '€œmock'€ but do we need an atomic clock for someone in a video game to say, It'€™s year'€¦.

I can'€™t believe this is a point of contention.

besides...
...
...

It was 819 in 4.86 when the server -cleary- states it 48.6 so that makes it around 863.

so there.
