In this scenario, thrusters are modified in such a way that it is no longer possible for the thrusters to push into their top speed in the timespan of a second or two.
Meaning that in order to reach the top speed with the ship's thruster, the player must keep it powered up for up to three to four seconds, maybe more depending on the mass of the vessel. The same goes for deceleration, it takes a bit longer to accomplish.
This will mean that ships will no longer go from normal speed to boosted top speed near instantly, meaning their use in combat is greatly dulled. Causing a lot of snub-craft agility to be lost, however to make up for this, their top speed has been increased due to their lower mass.
So folks, what do you think would happen if acceleration/deceleration mechanics while boosting thruster top speed for some vessels were added to Disco?
Interesting, it would make normal jousting techniques suicide and we might see more dogfighting maneuvers. However dogfights in other games turn into endless rounds of planes circling each other and agility beats all.

I have a concept that fixes that issue. If only minions would listen to me.
Having more delays in speed would create a huge gap in the purpose of Fighters. Making suck more to be in a fighter for which this game started out to be.
Bombers...seems to be like the favorite child of Discovery because they get all the attention.
Bombers are just freakshow fighters. Nothing unique in their makeup. Thus why should the thrusters be changed? That is my question.
What makes it so important to post but NOT add a cool poll?
Bombers should drop things....many things...high yielding things...with trackers...and sensitive prongs.
I like this idea, and think impulse and cruise acceleration, aswel as reverse thrust should all have much slower, varying rates, dependent on the ship.
However it may require a lot of balancing.

EDIT: Also for reverse thrust to not be instant either.
Balancing is a scam. Just saying. Making uniform is more reasonable.
Have the speeds change with key binding and such.
How easy it is to hit something going 50 m/s, 100 m/s, 150 m/s.... 250 m/s What would be cool is if thrusters got up to Cruise speed. OH WAIT! Isn't that the reason they created cruise drain? No more sniping at 400M/S:(
If we seriously want a speed control for afterburners suggest we have adjustable settings for our energy based weapons.

' Wrote:Fletcher, is this only for thrust speeds? I mean can you still hit the breaks instantly like before?
In this scenario, only thruster speeds where you hit tab, or whatever you hotkey'd it as.

Fighters and their ilk would still get rather nippy acceleration, though on paper the more mass, the slower the acceleration, so bombers would take a hit while gunboats and trains would be hardest hit.

Reverse isn't instant either in this scenario, and yes, balancing would be a pain.

That would cause a lot of issues with balancing again in my mind, there is only so much this engine can take before it screams "Bloody rape!", at least, until Cannon shouts surprise.
