Ok, I've had my GMG character for months now...But hardy any members come on i've never done much in the GMG although i want to....What do they do other than mine gas and hunt pirates?

SHouldn't you have figured that out before you joined... heck a bit bad taste putting this on the forums since you could just as easily asked one of you faction mates.

Perhaps you should get skype and join our channel. It may seem like the faction is dead, but there are usually multiple members available.
I couldn't help but notice you left out trading. GMG runs trade missions almost everywhere. Before my laptop fried, I did a route to Omega-7 with two escorts, and then a triangular trade to the Taus and Liberty with one escort.
We used to do exploration and recon missions in Omicron Beta, but we haven't done one since the beginning of the summer :(.
Sounds to me, you've been down on your luck. But as Death's Overture said, you should join us on Skype and it'll be a lot easier to coordinate actual playtime with your fellow Guildsmen:)
You are the only member who is not in our Skype chat which makes it very difficult to feed you information for any questions or for us to group up together when someones needs an escort or wingmate. Just a couple days ago I did one of my rare slave runs. If you are itching for activity you might have been available on Skype when I need an escort. Get Skype, pm me your Skype name.
Aside from that, patrol for pirates and smugglers. Usually fine 2 million for smuggler. If you see a slaver and it's possible to divert the slaver to drop them off in Okinawa, great, otherwise treat as a smuggler. Click on Death's Overture link in his sig for a ton of info on GMG| and also you'll find some more popular GMG routes to use. If you aren't on Skype maybe you'll be lucky to stumble on us forming up to go for a foray into Beta but if you had Skype you'll know ahead of time and may be prepared to join us.
As a final note; I hear 4.86 should help the Sigmas after a dry 4.85 season.
