EDIT: By the way...every time it recovers from the 30sec of RIDICULOUS lag, it kicks someone for cheating. Is everyone a cheater now? It kicks people from the BAF, long standing experienced players and everyone it wants. This happens every time it recovers from lag and I've just about had it having to wait 30 secs before docking / regenerating with bots / jumping to other systems. POSSIBLE CHEATING DETECTED.....this is annoying too, you know.

The Admins here don't get paid and they HAVE got a life outside of looking after the server.
Sometimes the problem is not with the server, but with something else in the 'Net, like the peer node that was messing up the other week and causing similar problems.

Na just kidding, I had enormous lag to and I normally have a ping between 35-42 and 0 fluct and lag but now I had a fluct of 13 what brought me up to 55 ms ping. Maybe there was some usefull information in that one?
Why are you complaining?
55ms is still great, its better than most of us have.
Then what should people with 200-300ms(or worse) say?

If it was'nt for A&L or the admins there would be no server.
What about the constant "Possible cheating detected?" Is it really because of cheats or its just the server acting up? I remember the times in 2009, it was perfect.... Majkp kept the server running lag-less and smooth, the lag was nowhere to be found (maybe in some events that about 30-40 people attended in one system, but that is perfectly normal). So...is the count of cheaters going up again, or is it just some software bug that kicks out players after a lag-fluctation?

I don't know.
Possibly one of the Admins could enlighten us on that particular subject.
I know that there is a system which will kick a player if their lag goes over 60% and that *might* be doing it, but I don't have anything to do with the actual server, so I can't really say for sure.
The possibilty that the amount of cheaters is going up is there, Disco has been featured in one or two magazines and a few web sites over the last few months, so we are getting more people here (I think), so the chances we are getting more people who think they can beat the system is very real.

About 70% are people cheating or rather trying too. We just detect more of them now. Perhaps 30% maybe less are not and just get kicked because FL is insane.

Ugggh. Multiple problems. In the last 4 weeks:
- most recently it was caused by a network driver software upgrade (we rolled the driver back finally)
- before that a weird fault to do with a DirectPlay driver that we still don't really understand (it went away by itself)
- before that network faults in the internet (they just go away eventually)
- and before that there have been equipment faults in the data center (these usually get fixed pretty fast)
In addition the server is overloaded. Our normal server lag is 100 ms while most other servers consider 40 ms to be terrible.

Well while I should be pleased when reading this I actually am not...
I maybe was able to operate a highly overclocked machine because I had it at home and was able to react quickly if something went wrong. However I failed big time when those DDoS attack came. I couldn't protect nor the server nor my network. Current server may have slightly less single-core-computing power but it is very resistant to outside attacks. Current team (mostly Cannon) is doing their (his) best, so please don't disregard this effort by such comments...
