So, whilst drinking, I suddenly had another brilliant idea on how to curb capspam, or at least the lolwut capspamers.
Now don't get me wrong, I do not hate caps ships, in fact some of the best rp I've had has involved them. I just don't like it when certain factions drop one or two cruisers, three battleships, and a carrier on a group of pirates.
There is a class of ship that is designed to be an anti-fighter ship, its called a gunship guys or better yet get some practice in a fighter.
Anyways here's my idea.
Take capital ships out of the game entirely.
No, not really.
Simply make ships losable. Say when your ship is destroyed instead of going back to your last dock in your ship, you go back to the last docking point with a CSV. And all of your equipment is automatically sold and sent back to you as an insurance payout. Just so you don't lose everything and ragequit.
Lets use an classic example out of tau 23.
Currently:
Miners are out in the fields, a zypher is watching over them, and a pirate scouts the fields and reports that there are several miners being guarded by a carrier. Pirate calls in some bomber support and sinks the carrier. 4 hours later its back and the cycle repeats itself again.
With the proposed change:
(same until the carrier is sunk). The lolwuts cry that they lost several hundred million, however learn a valuable lesson. Bombers kill capships easily. With painfully taught lesson, the lolwuts invest their new assets into making gunships that are much more easily maneuvered through the asteroid fields (and cheaper) and through several encounters learn to fly and become decent rp'ers.
Also this might help the whole transport/miner vs pirate rp as well. Now instead of the 3 million fee simply being over lost cargo its now for the whole ship. Suddenly a 3 mil fee isn't as bad when compared to a 20million credit loss for a borderworld transport.

Talking about lolwuts, they're a part of discovery. Some small things can be done to lessen the problem (If you consider it a problem), but they'll always be around.

but you dooo get a save point... you have all the cash etc from the sale of the ship, you just have to go buy it again, and claim the difference from the miners you were protecting.
Zephyrs do not make good escorts. nor do gunships. a mix of vhf and bombers would make pierats think twice - even if they come tooled up with funboats, the bombers can make light work of them. if they come with snubcraft, the fighters can engage, allowing the miners to retreat to java and safety.
