Apprehension raised the hairs on the back of his neck, and he sensed a loaded gun behind the word "vision." He chose his words carefully, making sure to stay completely honest.

"My friends are all people I have met doing odd jobs around Liberty, or in bars. Nothing fancy. Most of my oratory, if you can call it that, has been while on the way to, or in the midst of, intoxication at said bars. Railing against the various people who kept me and my friends down. They all nodded -as far as I can remember which, considering that I was drunk fairly often, may not be too far- and agreed, raising glasses. While doing some extended work in Ontario, I caught the campaign of, as he was called then, Citizen Katz. What little 'vision' people might say I have, I credit to his example."

"It was his words, his example, that inspired me to -among other things- sober up, and start working towards where I am now. My opinions were refined and sharpened, and my will forged. I still had friends, and they still respected me and the things I said. I like to think that I influenced them, imparted some of the wisdom I had gleaned from the example of Citizen Katz. Maybe I didn't. Whether I did or I didn't, I ended up here, before you, hoping to do further work for the Revolution."

"Things will not calm down, Daniel Jackson. They will, in fact, calm up."

Vladimir stroked his beard.

"Our great Premier inspired you?! Well, I suppose for a namby pamby like you - He would seem very inspiring eh? Does his blonde locks make you go all weak at the knees?!"

He laughed evilly.

"So if you know about Ontario and about Katz's role there, you will have no trouble in explaining it. In your own words - without the aid of your notepad there."

"Do not worry, sir, the notepad is just for drawings. No cheat sheets for me," he said, but mentally he swore. He was still drunk for much of that period, and it wasn't until the Toronto riots that he had sobered up. Still, he gave it his best.

"From what I remember, he was the underdog for most of the race. Fiery rhetoric and scathing critiques of the other candidates, who all represented the same tired back-and-forth that characterized much of Liberty politics for a long time. Corporate fronts, really. Still, he gave everyone a surprising show, Citizen Katz, the 'only real choice'. He had gained a surprising amount of popularity, all things considered. He must have scared someone upstairs, given them a run for their money, because of what followed. We both know, but I'll say it anyway because you asked."

"Toronto Station, the hockey game. I was in a bar on Thunder Bay Depot at the time, with friends. I was sober, for the most part, but I still liked a drink or two. We were watching the game, and suddenly, there was footage of Marines on Toronto! It was ridiculous, brazen, but there it was. He was shot, along with the local police chief, and the riots broke out, and then he surrendered. He became a martyr, but without actually dying. It was all rather surreal, crystallized, for me. As if everything had played out in slow motion as I watched. Still, it was a tragedy. Then he won the election, and put McLaughlin in his place. There were other details and stories, smaller ones, of course, and I have the vague memory of that other Commissar being involved, but I can't remember quite."

"Things will not calm down, Daniel Jackson. They will, in fact, calm up."

Vladimir looked intently at the recruit.

"And how would you fit into the fighter corps hmm? Where the vodka is freely dispensed and where your fellow pilots will laugh at you for your non-drinking? Hmm I wonder if your liver will take another drink or if it will merely explode. That said, It's a wonder you haven't exploded already - such is the reams of fat coming off you."

He threw some papers at the recruit.

"Fill these in and get to the gym fat-so. I would tell those two marines to throw you out the airlock but A) They'd break their backs trying and B) I doubt you'd fit."

He pointed at the door.

"Out. Go sideways if you have to. NEXT!"

For a moment, Kasimierz stared in shock. He had half expected a bullet, or a crossbow bolt, or a knife, or a scattering of pellets, or some other gruesome ending. When he realized how lucky he had been in not only surviving, but in surviving without injury and with the registration papers, he scooted out as fast as his bulk would allow, mumbling thanks and similar sentiments.

Dasha walks in the office with her thoughts cleared.
"Good day comdar commisar. My name is Dasha Ivanovici. I am here to join the peoples army."

Then she waited for the commisar to say somthing to her standing in front of his desk.

As the time went on he saw a woman entering the office of another commisar and the big-foot recruit walking out of the other office. He nods at him, silently swallowing after he passed by. 'This one managed it, even unhamred, will you reach the same?' He thought...and recognized the seemingly still angry commisar shouting for the next...the next what? The next applicant? Or wouldn't it be the next victim? 'Stalin, it seems you hate me... Taking a deep breath, hopefully not his last one, he threw away every sign of fear. As he heard the commisars were like sharks. If they noticed any sign of nervousity or fear, you could be dead before one could say 'Teplyi!'. After looking around once more he entered commisar Kurkov's office with big steps.

"Commisar! Nikolai Chevchenko reports in! i don't think I have to annoy you with explaining why exactly I am here...it should be clear that it is not to clean the floor"

He stood in front of the commisar's desk in an upright posture. His scar itched, but he did not dare to scratch it.

Vladimir picked up a shotgun from the marine and levelled it at Nickolai. He sung a little.

"Katz! Glorious Katz!"

He then pointed at the recruit.

"Sing."

He clicked the barral back then forth to chamber a shell. It made a satisfying "CHICH-CLICK" sound.

For just one moment he looked at the shotgun with big eyes. It seemed to be totally useless to yell a little song when one applied to pilot a fighter. But there was no choice now. No chance to retreat, and in Nikolai's mind no need to. Hesitating while singing the first words he began to gather some self-confidence after he started to improvise a hymn on the great Katz in the first melody which came into his mind. And thus his strong voice echoed off the walls.

"Oh Katz, Glo-rious Katz. Hero of the Coal-iti-on. Id-ol of Onta-aario, you broooought our ide-als to the heart of capitalism! Wiiith fighting with words yoooouu hurt our enem-ies more than a-ny weapon could do! Eeee-very citizen stands behind you! What yo-ou expect we wiiilll do-oo! What you ne-ed we will giiive! Kaaatz brings equ-ality and pe-ace to Si-ri-us! Once there were rebels down on Ja-ing Xi, threatening uuuuus! But Katz removed the dark, our middle is clean! The red star will shiiiine! Oh Kaaatz, you maaaade us stro-ong! At your side the Co-ali-tion wi-il raaiiiiiiise!"

Ignoring the shotgun close to him he tried to give his best, though Nikolai never was the best singer.

Turning his head at the caterwauling that was coming from the next room, Mendel rolled his eyes.

"It sounds like a pregnant llama giving birth to a walrus!"

He pointed at the recruit in from of him, "Well lass, don't just stand there, sing the second verse..." he leveled his gun at her. "If you don't know the words, be creative."
