Mining

I noticed in the Shattered Worlds mod for freelancer that they have those big large Asteroids in a Mining field.
I had no idea what they were for until i saw a guy coming in a Mining ship(quite expensive) and retracting the arms which was inside the ship and made some sparks.
He was mining the Rock like in Real space mining.He got like 2000-4000 units of that rock.Cant we have something like that in discovery?
In every Field have like 4-5 of these things scattered?Its better than shooting those tiny rocks.Like we target the asteroid field and select from the guns menu those 2 arms?(This option is avaible if we have those rocks) and we like fire at it.
but there will be no firing coming from it. Instead the ship will automaticlly go to the rock and start doing its job.
Lets the owner of the ship Relax and do something in the mean time while its being mined? Like mabye will take 10-20 minutes? and the units will be like 2000. So the guys can shoot small and large rocks. Also mabye the barge can Join in.
With its refireney.But only the Hegomen Can mine those rocks( large Ones).
And Every server restart the rocks comes.
Its like codies.
Also when mining Make the asteroid Shrink outt of existence or something to tlet it know its been mined?

To each (mod) their own...Not helpful, but that's the answer. They have their system, we have ours.

Mining is a duty, if it was as simple as letting the game engine do the work for you then there would be no gameplay at all. Discvovery has its on way of mining, the original one which I find good so far.

eh would it be nicer? yes, but think of this aswell;

The prices of raw ore would drop immensely because mining now become that much easier.

Also, you'll end up having alot more botters and afkers that steal precious slots so they can endlessly mine for moolah.

Its a nice concept, but it jsut doesnt work here. Nice shiney square peg just doesnt fit in the round hole of discovery.

The developers won't allow additions to this mod that come from others.

(I fail to see how we can even associate ourselves with a Freelancer Community Network when we're not allowed to better our own mod with the very things that people are putting out there. I would imagine some mods take things from disco.)

Why do people keep saying this when it is not true!

What we will do is never steal stuff from other mods. Never.

We might and do implement ideas that are similar to other mods. We never steal.

We know many developers in other mods and they help us and we help them when we can. We're very much part of the freelancer community.

The SWWT mining implementation has a few downsides although it is rather neat.

That statement there is not true. No, we wont steal the idea nad claim it is ours, but we will use the idea and improve upon it to better suit discovery.

In my personal opinion, this mining mod would harm disco, and kill the mining balance that was painfully created a year or so ago.

Again, its a neat idea, but it just wont work here unless you drop the price of ore to pennies on the dollar and make people spend the time they would chewing up rocks trading instead. Even then, it destroys the conept of mining in the first place.

If AFK mining can be done, that is, if the large rock mining is implemented, make it slower than regular pebble shooting, and make mining ship's cargo space 100 units, so that the miner has to constantly transfer the ore to the transport ship.

Botter as in = A script that uses a series of commands (also known as a macro) to carry out a task. In example, you can set a script to mine until you cant mine anymore, then tell it to jettison cargo, then repeat. Then, on another character of yours, or a friend of oyurs, can pick up the ore, and boom, afk/botter mining.

The same thing happens on eve, and there its the same case where botters are agaisnt the rules. Doesnt stop even many peopleo n disco here, who probably bot their trade runs.

seriously, stop spewing nonsense. discovery does not employ any such "policy", so i really dont know where you're getting this from people.

regarding the topic at hand..

while yes, it is possible to do and is good, it has downsides. infact, i spoke to cannon ages ago about implementing something like this, but the cons seriously outweighed the pros, hence we were against implementing it. however, if we DO get a better solution, we might think about implementing it into the mod very soon. just dont ask me for a date when its gona be in the mod.:D
