if anything, the events happening in the recent days showed something needs to be changed. numerous arguments have been put down about zoners doing something wrong. additionally, i hate to see a bunch of people leaving because they got shot at for 4 days.
i, by no means, want to dictate your roleplay - this is a mere suggestion. try to see the vices and virtues of this kind of redefinition, and decide.
the zoners as a community (ingame, not forums) are a bunch of people, who for various reasons, have decided to live in the wild and unregulated systems outside colonial control. This would imply that they for some reason do not like the way houses run stuff. Recently, when formed the Zoner Alliance, the Zoners as a whole started to act like a house, and thus becoming something they ran away from in the first place. The Zoners are essentially anarchists (but this is just my opinion), who are living as families (or rather communities) on their respective freeports. And slowly coming to the point - Each of these communities would operate individually, depending on local events, and not events concerning the Zoners as a whole. This way, the respective communities can respond faster to events happening around them, and keeping the microdiplomacy relatively balanced in terms of not trying to be good to everyone, but just their respective neighbours.
I'm not sure if I made myself clear, hopefully I did.
Someone has questions, go ahead.
quite a few people i was talking to about this had interesting ideas, jose benitez for example. feel free to contribute, guys.
it looks like people are surprised, that Zoners could RP self destruction. Zoners are not a warriors, they served people keeping Freeports in Borderworlds , if those people don't want Zoners - "kill all Zoners", they simply left to unknown. That is all, that is the Zoners way.
there was plenty of time to make players feel respected as players before - opportunities that passed, cause factions affilitations were reflected on the players playing the faction.
if you say "i have fun shooting you, why don t you have fun being shot or shooting back? - let me apply more of my fun, so maybe you have fun then!" people need to reconsider what "community" means.
Thing is, why would we dictate Zoners how to RP their faction? (I know you said martin, you don't want that, but many people wanted exactly that) Does anyone do that to our factions? No.
I have seen so many people around playing smart , preaching about other faction's role play, while it is really not their place to preach. We are far away from vanilla, and it's up to people to develop further role play of their factions.
What about factions that didn't existed in vanilla? You don't have anything to compare them with, does that mean their RP can't be wrong? I think people are making mistakes when comparing today's factions with vanilla ones.
I fully agree with Jinx, there has been to much one side fun in all this.
this is NOT dictating rp. this is a suggestion based on my opinion. i dont intend to force it upon anyone. and jinx, i think this is actually the perfect time for a post like this. tha ZA has fallen and 2 zoner factions are left disbanded. perhaps its time for someone to take their place.
Jinx another point for you, many people have not noticed (or have done crazy about it) than Zoners do not like PVP. There are many ways to enjoy this game and not all going to shoot everything that moves.
Lately the word "anarchist" is being used very happily and very few know anything of utopian socialism (anarchism, communism, socialism and social democracy, the latter a bit light-). Just something in which almost all are wrong: Anarchism does not mean that there is no organization, just do not believe in the need for the state / government / legislators, you can get the same with the association for purposes that meet the specific or constant needs.

Yes. But action has a reaction. In vanila zoners are neutral becouse they kept their course of action. Now it changed in disco. Natural, that other faction stance twordwards zoners changed too. Meanwhile, only lil bit was required to open the pandara's box. Which happened.
What Vlko said, was marely a suggestion what would bring back the old stance twordward zoners. What action should be taken to make reaction which is maybe pleasable. There might be much more variations.
Now that fun argument is totaly silly. What about sair character for who bowing to a zoner was not fun at all or even shameful? Or you can think only for yourself? FUN it's not something objective. You can't measure it.
As I have said elsewhere, I don't have a Zoner, and as a result have little real knowledge of the internal workings of the Zoner "government", however, I do believe that in more recent times the Zoners have tried to act in too much of a co-ordinated (almost house like) way. I'm not stating this as a fact, but it is my perception.
Rather then be a very loosely associated group of like minded individuals that didn't particularly like rules, and wanted to each go their own way, it seems that there is a real governing structure emerging. That, in and of itself, is fine but in game terms a Government that has to remain as neutral as the Zoners do is going to have quite a dull job.
As a leader(s) of the Zoners you can't easily make "deals" with other factions as it will upset their enemies (and affect your neutrality). You can't be seen to pick sides and claim to be "friendly" with factions as that will upset their enemies (and again affect your neutrality).
Zoners are neutral because all of the other factions permit it. It is not a god given right.
In essence, I believe that Zoners are neutral because the positives that they bring to a faction with whom they deal, outweigh the negatives and so that faction allows them to be neutral.
For example Zoners shipping food to Corsairs results in a number of positives, allowing Corsair enemies to dock on Freeports results in negatives. Historically the food shipments have been considered of more importance (and therefore earned more plus points) than the occasional enemy escaping to a FP (which earnt negative points). Once the balance of negatives and positives shifts to the extent that there are more negatives than positives then the Corsairs will stop considering Zoners to be neutral.
This positive and negative position can be applied to just about all (if not all) of the people that the Zoners do business with - not just the Corsairs. Equally if the Corsairs can secure food shipments in sufficient quantities from elsewhere then the benefits of receiving shipments from the Zoners is reduced (although not removed).
No one should be dictating anyone else's RP, but for Zoners to not appreciate that their decisions have consequences is naive.
For instance, I believe that there has recently been a secret (in RP) security meeting between the Zoners and "others". In the event that any of the factions not invited found out that the meeting had taken place and that in many cases the uninvited factions enemies had been there, then they would immediately, and with some justification, believe that the Zoners had picked the side they wanted to be on.
there was plenty of time to make players feel respected as players before - opportunities that passed, cause factions affilitations were reflected on the players playing the faction.
