If people really want good caps in freelancer then you have to look at ship movement.
Freelancer movement is to abrupt,
which is why the game favours fighters.
Flak 88 improved ship movement and added a proper anti fighter defence weapons. So battleships are insanely strong but realistic.
In discovery we can't have that because,...
...The mod is to be kept close to the original game but just an expension.
...If we would have proper armed battleships we would need about 5 wings of 5 bombers to hurt his systems a bit.
So a summery we can't make the battlesips stronger because they will have to many bluemsgs for the lulz and we can't weaken them since they will be owned even worse.
I'll sit back and wait for 4.86 and see what happened to all the mounting points of the battlehips since they will be limited with heavy and light weaponry. No more 90% filled solaris ships and some won't have dual mortars.
Ok...let's make BS to resist on 3 bombers. Let's make them more powerful but....let's reduce their number only to the admirals of the official factions. On one sentence: Admins will give BS only to the factions leaders like [LN], [RM], KNF, and so. Rest of the players the single cap ship to take it will be an cruiser. Seems logical to me to have 1 BS, 5 cruisers, 5 gunboats and 10 fighters/bombers in an fight. Maybe fewer cruisers like 3. And we will see more offen the Admirals of the fleets in the BS. We will know whitch one is the "Flag ship" right?

I approve! Although 1 per faction might be a bit thin.
I approve of the coming semi-buff of battleships in4.86. Just don't mess with Cruisers.
However these arguments of bombers vs. BS's do bring back a memory of my time with CR (keep in mind that was in early 4.84)
One time we raided alpha with about 1-2 gunboats and 5-6 vipers. The gunboats went down quickly, but we did take out a ranseur and the early version of the sarissa
So yes, VHF's are quite capable of vanquishing larger ships
In a sense, battleships are meant to be large slow movin gun platforms to serve as a base of operations to smaller task forces.
As such, Battleships in the major houses themselves are already thin.
I wouldnt agree to limiting the battleships by rank, HOWEVER, limiting battleships to official factions seems much more manageable and reasonable, rather than having a plethora of independant battleships.
Even merc factions once more will have a slight chance of getting capitals back.
I am absolutely against buffing the battleships. I know it seems a bit daft how the hell can a 2km long ship be destroyed by 2 bombers /actually thinking about it, a single shot in the reactor might do that but i suppose that's just me geeking about it/. The amount of capships currently flown by players who have absolutely no idea about roleplay and much less about fair play will almost render small scale fighter raids useless. For example: yesterday, a nice 5 man Sabre raid in Gamma, the dude flying the solaris Ossie was a true bro and withdrew when enough fighters to counter us arrived, for the next 30 minutes the fight was extremely fun until an Outcast dreadnaught decided to "help" and in helping killed 2 teammates. Now imagine him having a buffed version of his ship.
I do support the Idea that the big capital ships should be given in limited numbers by the A.D.M.I.N.S to the official factions. I even support a certain house/faction should have a preset number of capships available like in Mass Effect it is stated that every nation has a certain amount of dreadnoughts and carriers. For example Liberty as can get up to 10 dreadnoughts but only 5 carriers, Rhienland can have 7 dreads and 10 cruisers or something like it but all of that is in a better world and if applied Disco will lose at least 20% of its current players

As far as limiting the allowable capships, I think is a no no. Limiting the capitals ships to offical factions makes sense because Independants shouldnt have access nor the wealth to own and operate such a vessel.
Furthermore, the only problem I see is that factions will limit the ships by rank, which makes it difficult for players themselves to get the capital in the first place.
We dont need the admins to hand out battleships, thats going to put a huge stress on them. If you want to limit it on a permission basis, leave it up the the official faction leaders (IE, a Rheinland Battleship would be granted by the leader of RM).

It is a frustrating enough to see indies with capships mate. Not everybody should have access to military technology. I would just love to see you buy a Nimitz-class carrier in RL. I know this is a game and all a funny escape from reality but that doesn't mean we should give nuclear weapons to chimpanzees just because it will be fun to see what happens. And as far as I remember, as a Freelancer you did not have access to any capital ships.
