Risk of distraction here, but I think static battleship should not be dockable by anything bigger than a gunboat. Also they should not have a ship dealer. They are front-line war machines.

Think of the ship dealer as of hangar where you are assign a craft. It's not like they sell ships commercially.

Battleships and carriers having a swathe of replacement strike craft makes perfect sense Ursus. Leaving them undockable by other battleships is something we could consider - medium moors only could work. But that's not what this topic is about and a discussion for another time.

I'm fairly certain it won't take you that long to dock your ship. Erica's post should be taken lightly, not that people here are very good at that. Because somewhat lacklustre 2003 space-sims are serious business, right?

Anyway:

It's those damned "jump" type hardpoints I want to get rid of which accept all traffic - they don't instruct the plugin to do the "unmoor in reverse" routine while undocking from them. The plugin governing undocking and usable moors incidentally has been running since the release.
It's just that quick docking hasn't been turned off yet right? So if I were to dock my ships normally as the system currently is I would see how long it takes.

Those issues needs to be considered.

I find the concept that the biggest ship doesn't make the most money very appealing. It could bring much diversity in trading fleets adopting to various restrictions and risks different business trips would provide.

Even dense asteroid fields were just little nuisance for my 5k transport.

Wouldn't that require to rebalance
1) whole economy
2) Ship prices, if ship with 2k can make as much profit as a ship with 5k?
3) ship survivability, for the reasons above.

Imo, at this moment we have more or less balanced transport stats and prices.

As for dockable battleships - well, so far there're places in Sirius where these dockable battleships have almost no viable alternative. Gallic frontline comes to mind.

I believe Aet and the dev team is aware of that and is not proposing something he is not willing to implement, I hope.

I thought we already using this concept. The ship is called Barge.
What would be the point of spending hundreds of millions on an 5k-er if it would bring less profit than a smaller tradeship? This would render them pointless/useless/whatever. The Barge is for RP only already.

Pretty neat list of issues came in my mind when I voted against the removal of quickdocking. I found most of it's content amongst the comments when I started to read them after voting, I won't list them again. The current system works just fine.

And for the ones wanting realism: You can start working on base models with reasonable sizes, docking hangars for ships, working (and effective) defense system on stations, defense fighter wings in garrison, script detecting pirates even if neutral by rep or just fired shots and the firing one, etc, then maybe we can talk about removing quickdocking just for the sake of realism.
