For issues of identifying other ships, it would be nice if a player would place their faction tag on their name. Yes, I've heard of the issue when someone sees a Keeper ship a gank fleet goes after it.

I see that the BHG Bounty hunters, TAZ and (o) Zoners and I think LN Liberty are pretty good with this and the LR Liberty rouges are as well, but a lot of ships fly without them.

This just makes it 1 frustration to prepare yourself for a rp or an all out attack.

Is there anyway we can better enforce this or has this been asked/talked about to death already?

Those tags are only for factions....meaning that only official Rogues carry the LR tag and only official hunters carry the BHG tag

some people use them as ship prefixes, like the LNS or MNS, who are not factions, but use that as the equivalent to the USS or HMS prefix many real ships use

Those people who don't have tags don't belong to a faction therefore they're not allowed to use a faction tag. Faction tags are reserved for official factions. Some people prefer freelancing, that means not working for any faction at all and use a unique name to identify themselves.

You can't force independent players to put a tag onto their names, unless they belong to an official faction or player group.

Tags are the only things which separate an official faction player from faction independent player on the server.

the IFF and ID is what recognises your rp partner primarily. a tag is optional, and preferably for factions only.

Me thinks he wants people to use tags so that he can easily meta-game bounty hunt some peeps without finding out who they are and what they work for himself.

...No?

I dont know what Meta-game bounty is. This is mainly when Im in my transport, or fighter. For example. There is a bomber that resides in the New toyko/ Honshu system who is an official member of the Farmers alliance but only has 5 characters in his name. no tag. This happens a lot. Thats what I'm talking about.

pirates? again?

again - an official faction is a PLAYER GROUP that has proven itself to uphold generally good roleplay on the server. you are talking about NPC faction members, who do not belong anywhere. what tag do you have?

pay the AFA... or get hims chased out by the KSP, or a BHG, or a dragon/gc/whatever (not too hot on kusarian politics)

but looking in the contact list to see who is where... long range scanners, blah blah blah....

whats the point?

in the end, we're here to get one over the other guy. its all a competition; i fly my snuggler past pirates AND police, all of which would like a slice of the action. when i get caught, i say, 'hey, had to happen sooner or later'.

but the times i DON'T get caught, I'm sneaking from jumphole to jumphole, hiding behind radiation clouds, flying above/below/around/through systems, taking daft-half assed routes that would appear absolutely random...

and all the time my heart is a-hammering in my chest cos i literally dont know who is around the corner.

look on the player list? sod that! spoil my fun for a few measly credits? are you mad?

Coin, Viko 1+ somewhere else please? Stop looking for some hidden meaning behind what Im saying.

My Freelancers have a [FL] Tag and my trade ships have a sudo rep exp Id. I dont care if they have an outcast or Corsair ID but something to help me id who they are. Sneaking around the jump holes isnt any problem but when I see five or 6 names in the list that have not a single id to tell me who they are, I's stuck with having to fly right past a freindly or have no forewarning of impending danger. They can see me coming a mile away with my ID and have some idea how to form a plan to either gank me or pirate me or RP with me.

For example, a short RP involved a group of Liberty Rouges in a system that will remain unknown. Seeing them there, as a trader I conversed with them, they did with me. In that short time I knew they werent after $ but perhaps after something else. I took the normal routes and kept my mouth shut and they stayed out of my hair. All grand and shiny.

Pirates rely on suprise but even a freelancer ID gives me some idea what to expect. I see a Hog or KNF or BD, I know that I should either brave the run, take a JH or find another route. That's my point.

I was asked in space a few days ago:

"What does 'W.F.' stands for? What is your group?"
