You want players to use letters in their name to identify their NPC faction? Sure, if they want. But most indies enjoy being tagless.

You can freely put an NPC faction name, such as "Republican" in your name, but not official faction tags. For example, having the name RepEx-Dewgong without having been recruited by the official RepEx faction would make you a "tag stealer." A further example.
There is a diference. When player have an iff/id then he is generaly viewed as member of npc faction(cant wear oficial tag). But most npc factions have player factions behind them and making decisions(the ones that have tags). The first are more or less independend, while the later have more, for lack of better word, power.

They can see me coming a mile away with my ID and have some idea how to form a plan to either gank me or pirate me or RP with me. Pirates rely on suprise but even a freelancer ID gives me some idea what to expect. I see a Hog or KNF or BD, I know that I should either brave the run, take a JH or find another route. That's my point.
And when you see that you are going to be pirated in the next system, you will just and simply avoid it by all means. So you would try to avoid a RP encounter, which is somehow the most important thing on this server, thats why its called "RP Server".
But if the pirate flies tag-less, you wont know who/what he is and you wouldnt avoid this encounter. So... everyone flying with tags to make it easier for people that will try to meta game their way through Sirius always avoiding encounters that could be fun for both sides? No... just NO.

Actually yes. I think you're taking it from one side and not the big picture. For example, there are two main ways to get in and out Sigma 13. The trade lanes and jump holes. Kruger is hostile to GMG. Kruger ships frequently have been going through Sigma 13 and encountered two or three GMG bomber fighters. We knew the conflict would happen sooner or later but we were prepared for the encounters. So in preparation for the encounters, some would take the trade lanes while others the Jump holes in hope one would get through or pair up for a more defensive role. But we understood and prepared ourselves for the type of RP we were about to enter:
Long time struggle with and old Kusari faction that has a legitimate grudge against a corporation that instigated a war and now is costing the GMG a lot in ALG waste removal fees. You can't ask for a better RP setup then that.
Still Kruger labeled ships enter Sigma 13 and have been doing it for weeks. Someone took the initiative and understanding that to have a solid RP, to have GMG ID labeled ships in that system. There was no confusion, no wondering who's what. We were Kruger, they were GMG, and we were violating their space.
The GMG choose, each time to give us choices, all leading to different RP. I'm sorry but your argument holds no water for me.
Now form your standpoint, a tag-less fighter typically would be ignored. No, in fact they draw my attention more than anything. The problem is when trying to PM or even system chat a tag-less craft they either say nothing, (great way to encourage RP by the way) or call more of their budies in to join the fun. This leads to the RP Im sure you're craving.:
Tag-less: Stop right there, give me your money!
Trader: Wait! What are you doing!?
Tag-less: It seems he wont corporate boys, blast him. Trader has been killed by a tag-less idiot and his bunch
Yea, great RP a no name has no corporation to stand behind, no real reason to stand behind anything and can simply act as any pirate can. Only when HE gets blow up does his NPC faction come into play. Pretty lame if you ask me and is more of a fall back then a proper RP.
The tags enhance RP, because they give BOTH sides the opportunity to RP and have both able to stick to the factions they have chosen to be a member of. Hell I've even seen. Xenos RP better than tag-less players. The Tag is more an encouragement for the player to act like his new found faction.
Sometimes, when all you want is to gain your freedom, you must be willing to risk it all.
It encourages it because the players can tailor their RP for the faction they are about to face. A tag helps ID who is the aggressor. I avoid them as much as I would a tagless character. The problem is, tagless characters hardly gives me time to identify them before demanding cargo and $. It leaves no room for RP.
Just a side note, take a look at the sanction page, most of them there don't use tags'¦.hmm

Adam, this is a stupid arguement, scan for IDs next time instead of working out where pirates are and deliberately avoiding them...

Because most of them are non-Official faction and break the rules more often. Official factions don't let in those that break the rules, and usually boot people for it.
