Clearly, the person who thought of this, and the people who support it, don't know a single bit of Nomad RP, or haven't looked at the consequences this would have. From what I've seen in the Omegas, nomads and wilde primarily target defenseless transports until the police/military finally get around to engaging them.

You suggest significantly upping the alien presence? It would crush traders who try to operate during the day.

Obvious solution: Traders should hire escorts.

But, escorts are scarce. In order for there to be more escorts, there has to be something (money) in it for them to rival trading themselves.

But unless you're hauling ore, that's splitting the profit rather thin. A cargo hold of engine components, on a 15 min trip between berlin and london, in a 5k trans gets you $2k profit x 5k = 10 mil. Not bad if you're solo, but not really worth your time if you have to split it with your escort.

But if you increase the profit margin to compensate for the need to pay your escorts during the day, traders who operate during the night when most people are sleeping get to hoard all of that extra profit to themselves. Also undesirable.

If a system could be implemented where prices would automatically adjust across Sirius based on time of day or server population, so that you could make enough to split with your escort and still make it worthwhile for both of you, then maybe this could work out. Otherwise I foresee traders getting kicked in the jibblies all the time and withdrawing their moneymaking activities to the wee hours of the morning.

Not in my experience at all. Wilde do to some extent, but you can talk your way out of it by complying completely and play along - I'd say I survived roughly 1/3 of my encouters with Wilde with my cargo more or less intact, 1/3 where I dropped it all and 1/3 where I died.

When it comes to Nomads/Keepers/K'hara, I have mostly met morphs who were eager to study and learn and play... however odd that may sound - never been engaged by a nomad, but I have pewed a few.

But yeah, it will turn into full-blown terrorism if the Nomad ID gets to be open use.

If the nomad ID gets opened is the wilde ID far behind?

I admit I've interacted with a lot more wilde than nomads, but I think my argument regarding the impact this may have on traders still merits discussion. I'd be interested in seeing a dynamic risk/reward price adjustment system regardless. :)

To clarify, it has never been stated as a demand - I met Wilde/Scorpions while carrying slaves and blood diamonds, and they got in my character's head and made him feel the suffering from the slaves/the hardship endured by those mining the diamonds, so I simply dumped my cargo and they didn't pursue me. I might have gotten off without doing that, who knows.

So I have never been given an explicit demand, but instead played out the logical consequences of the interactions.

The morphs I have met (when not on a OC character) have been playful in the sense that they wanted to race, play catch and asking me naïve questions about basic human conduct and emotions. I'm not sure, but I think it has to do with the K'hara/Keeper initiation - that morphs are "hatchlings". Inqusitive and not yet linked to the "hive mind" and whatnot, and learning about human beings. Not sure about this though - it might be my imagination filling out the blanks - but seeing that most morphs are just shot at by humans, I do understand why "grown up" nomads are hostile to human beings. Experience have taught them to be / they are to some extent the product of human actions.

This might be me applying oorp-knowledge, but I know for a fact that most of the Wilde and Nomad players are desperate for RP and not necessarily pewpew, so in general you will get off the hook more often than you would think by taking time to RP with them, rather than just shoot/flee and shouting stuff in system chat.

Pirates are far more likely to kill you, with or without RP. And by all means, let's keep it like this by not allowing open use of the Nomad ID.


EDIT: Trading is way too easy anyways, it needs a buffed challenge. More piracy, please. But no nomad lolgank squads, thank you very much.

You jest, but I have experience that leads me to believe some of you do go out of your way to do just that. One in particular, where sanctions were involved. I probably shouldn't get into it. Again, we're getting off track.

Assuming you're not working with miners, you know how many roundtrips between rheinland and bretonia it takes to buy a CAU 8? Like, 50, which equates to, at minimum, some 25 hours of doing the same thing over and over and over again.

Now, it would be much more interesting and rewarding if piracy was a bigger problem and I had to hire escorts, but with the current profit/time rates of standard trade, it would then take foreverx2 to buy anything. Even with the RP, this is still supposed to be a fun action space shooter. Not an eastern MMO grindfest, which is what it would become if you had to split your current profits in half to hire on an escort.

:lol:The trick is to find a trader character you enjoy RP'ing (and a ship you enjoy piloting) - makes trading less tedious. I don't even use the most profitable ships nor the most profitable trade routes, and I still made enough money to have a bunch of snubs, a couple of caps and two CAU VIII's (although I just lost one by dropping it in space the other day) + wasted a huge amount of money before I learned about the ship sale here on the forum. And I have enjoyed most of my time trading, it hasn't just been "Go to" / "Dock" all the way.

Truth be told, I often go above/below plane, and I mostly trade on my Junker ship and thus have a habit of being less exposed to piracy compared to Ore haulers, but I have also tested out different corporation ships/trade routes with no problems at all. Just stay away from Ore trading, as most lolpirates make their money lolmining, so they know what to do to extort miners/ore haulers. Personally I rarely had trade runs that didn't turn out profitable, and that is even considering the fact that I run a somewhat risky trade route.

Anyways, back on topic I think we agree that open use nomnom ID is a bad idea. It would lead to lolminers turned lolpirates turned lolnoms destroying the Omegas and everything else they come across. Not to mention Nomad RP.
