I've been playing Discovery open singleplayer the last few weeks (gonna check out the online RP server soon, it's lonely playing with myself:laugh:), and I have to say it's the best thing that's ever happened to Freelancer, gives the game a whole new lease of life. But I've run into a couple of gameplay balance issues...

The new Freelancer faction are way too tough. I got on the wrong side of the Freelancers after doing numerous missions against the Bounty Hunters, I can win if just 1 or 2 Freelancers flying Falcons attack me (I'm in an Eagle with 2x Kraken Type 2 and 4x Nomad guns, class 10 shield etc.), but if I get jumped by 6 of them I have to flee for my life. Weird since I can normally take Falcons out with only a few hits, and I can hold my own against 8 Outcast Sabres or Corsair Titans simultaneously. I got attacked by a single Freelancer flying an Eagle, and I swear it was totally immune to my weapons, I had its shields down to 0 and was firing all my guns at it simultaneously, and its armour wasn't going down at all. I can understand that the Freelancers are experienced pilots and probably have armour upgrades, but this Eagle was tougher than a battleship. I don't see how it could have taken that kind of damage even with a class VIII armour upgrade.

Along a similar vein, most of the time when I take a difficulty 39 mission against the Bounty Hunters I encounter Hammerheads in groups of 3 or 4 (no big deal), but sometimes the game spawns 4 BH battleships instead. I saved up the 7 million for a Nova cannon but I still couldn't have taken on more than one at once. Shouldn't these missions spawn only a single battleship, if that? Or a battleship with a few fighter escorts?

I'm also running into issues where large ships (e.g. Large Transport) can land at hollowed-out-rock pirate bases, but crash when you try to leave.

Crashing is a bug on your side.

As for the Freelancers, they're designed to be tough... And I don't know HOW many missions you've done against the BHG, but I've never heard of anyone going red to Freelancers via missions. Only if you shoot them. They're meant to be a challenge for the more experienced players while newer ones can simply ignore them.

No, I mean my ship crashes into the inside wall of the base because it doesn't make it outside the base before the docking doors shut. The game itself doesn't crash. This doesn't happen with smaller ships.

My reputation with the Freelancers went gradually down as I took Corsair missions against the Bounty Hunters, I must have done a few dozen of them. It definitely wasn't from shooting at Freelancer ships. I was able to make the Freelancers neutral towards me by paying bribes to the Bounty Hunters and Zoners. Even though the game says the Freelancers have no allies or enemies, it's clear that they are friends with both the BHG and Zoners and that attacking either group will annoy them.

Edit: it may be that the Freelancers hate the Corsairs and that was why my rep went down?

He means stuck not crash, when he is trying to undock. Know the problem. Best is to make two savegames and safe everytime by changing both saves before undocking. If you get stuck load the other savegame from the former station or planet. After a while you know which station to avoid with different ships.
Other way: demount your whole equipment. Sometimes helpful or using strafe buttons and cruise speed to push your ship out with violence. Can take a while and is not working everytime.

In MP the admins can set your ship beside the station.

A suitable workaround for this would be to make the smaller stations refuse to give you clearance to land, the same way planets do if you try to land a big ship on them. And yeah, I learnt to just avoid landing on anything other than a large space station.

For planets you have to use the anchorage above the docking rings. Your suggestion for permission to land would mean you can only dock with them in a fighter or freighter, but never with transports and capships.
Best is to save money until you can buy a Battleship. Their size guarantees that you can undock from every station. Sometimes need a bit of violence but works everytime.

It is possible to get your ship unstuck in that situation. Try a search thru the forums, it has been discussed many times...

Oh and BHG cruisers aren't s bad.... Two words: No shield. Target its turrets and use missiles/torps. Pull its teeth.

Wait till you have 6 of them with 12 Hammerheads in support.... (and with the Gamma cloud slowly eating your hull away). It's not impossible in a VHF.

i shot a freelancer eagle i believe for what seemed like 15 minutes with four Nomad Blasters and only had his armor down to barely under half. i mentioned this two someone and they said they hit one with 4+ nova shots to take it down.

i want some of that armor :)

Yeah, doing missions for Corsairs will get Freelancers against you since they are somewhat lawful. Yeah those BHG cruisers can be tough in a fighter. A gunboat will slaughter them though. Just fly by Planet Gammu if you want to go up against a Nomad Battleship with escorts consisting of two gunboats and several fighters. Some times these battlegroups will spawn in pairs, ive even seen three at once:)

Hehe, yea that's pretty scary:)

Little secret: You can take down a Nomad battleship group in a VHF. Again, no shields... use the "shoot 'n scoot" method to take down the fighters followed by the gunboats (aiming for turrets first). Then finally the big fella.... and believe it or not the BS is the easiest of them all. Just takes a looooooong time. There's a trick to it...
