I have a better idea. What about a live interview in all the newcomers?

What's stopping me from reading the rules while doing the test a.k.a. cheating?

I get the feeling a similar idea has been brought up several times before and it always ended up with the fact that cons outweigh pros (more precisely, a pro). Other then that, people are generally against it.

If you want to help the "anti-lolwut cause" , don't be lazy to talk to rule breakers and report them, if needed.

Well, you probably don't mind them. Blowing their ships apart is fun after all, right?

I didn't read the rules before I started playing on the server and I was never sanctioned once.

The rules are common sense, something people are lacking nowadays. An alternative would be a server password hidden amongst the rules, but this idea was also rejected before.

This is kind of a odd solution.

-Why? Because newcommers even if they read the rules, won't automaticly become decent players. I think it would increase the ammount of rule lawyer in oorp system chat' and nothing added to the overall experience.

-Reading rules is not the most enjoyable thing to do, yet alone understandind them, if we want new players or persistent newcommers we need to make the access to the community and the game easy and simple.

-Remember, we are human been, there will always be stupid or ignorant one. The community is hopefully equiped with an efficient report system led by an experienced group of administrators.

- I have seen a similar concept for some official faction with a madatory rules undertanding test prior to be in the said faction.

Exactly my opinion. Near all newcomers don't understand the rules, they just play. You learn the rules with practice and yes, maybe you got to be sanctioned before you understand them. Never make something like a license for playing a game.

That would a do the job.

I remember, North Quaderent sever and the pass word was hidden in the rules...

Maybe password protect and hide the password in the rules...

No. Just plain no.

I doubt any of us would be here if there was a password or a test to take before we were allowed to play. Not because we couldnt do the work, but instead because we wouldnt do it for a server and community we knew nothing about. The key is to bring people in, show them why its awesome, and why its way more fun to play by the rules and the rp than not to.

If this were in place in the past, disco would have died long ago, and if it were put into place now, disco would be the same players till it died, because no one new would ever join.

I am referencing the North Quadrant mod I played for a year here:

There was a constant playercount of over 100 and you had to read the rules, and find the password which was hidden in it.
