' Wrote:When you say "split server" do you mean two servers, that would host your characters from the other server as well?
Split server where you might have Kusari, Bretonia, the Taus, and Gallia on one server, and Liberty, Rhienland, Sigmas, Omicrons, and Omegas on the other. If your character wanted to move from Omega-49 to Dublin, then he would be jumping not just through the jumphole, but physically (or as much physically as anything electronic and virtual can) switching from server A to server B.
Note that the actual box / hardware that we have that runs DiscoGC IS capable of running more than one core - in the past it had the event server up and running while the main server was also running on it, so that we topped out at around 260 - 270 people playing at the same time, albeit split between the two servers.
The PROBLEM is that Server A and Server B have to perfectly synch in communicating. The last time this split was tried, it didn't work well for those people out in space at times...

I'm curious if the situation with Intels release of their new processors on the
1155 socket - They've been reported to be able to run stable on 5GHz on
only air cooling.

Link please?
Also, as stated above, the problem used to be 40% hardware, 60% software, nowdays it's 10% hardware, 90% stupid flserver.exe coding. So the real cost of getting a higher cap is paying someone to do the full time job of rewriting flserver.exe.

And, again - All this is still just on air cooling. The first batch for customers shipped just two days ago, so there
still isn't a lot of info on how this would run on water cooling or something more extreme such as liquid nitrogen.
First you would have to buy the Freelancer source code to rise the player slot number above 255, which they wont sell you, so you got no choice but to buy Microsoft, and then hire the Freelancer programmers to reverse engineer their code and do that.

As a community we should be able to rais the money, I myself would hapily donate to help afford hardware to cope with it. However, Cabulb made a poiint about source codes? I doubt Microsoft would sell it cheap to allow us to modify it. (if the information he gave was correct)

Not everyone in this community is willing, or able, to pay for such things.
