Quote:Lawful factions: Warning buoy and a small pewpew turret belonging to the guard faction -before- entering the guard system. Basically a "stay out" notification.
Then every lane at a lawful faction guard system should NOT be in the targeting range of these turrets (i think the one in New London was quite close, or am I wrong there?).
Quote:Unlawful factions: A whole bunch of turrets (or a pair of NPC static boats) around the jumphole to ambush anything entering the guard system. Basically a "something goes in, nothing comes out" strategy.
What about a more "silent" aproach?
Destroyed ships and some debris floating around, with the WARNING infocard? If you are nearby the jumphole, you will see and probably scan them, so kinda like an unlawful bouy ... and it doesn't have to be some lootable ship wrecks because stuff is way more interesting if it doesn't show up on your ingame map.
Or at least this is my opinion ^_^
Quote:I dont really understand why they should put this in. I mean, just because some people get blown up in a guard system? Whats the problem there?
If they enter a guard system for the first time and get blown up, they're gonna figure out what it is and wont get blown up again. Simple as that.
So, your character is a suicide-happy explorer who knows that his ship and his body will respawn once he took the wrong jumphole? Nice RP then ^_^

No, but what guarantees that you will die immediately once you enter a guard system? You can just fly around the JH through which you entered for a few seconds until you can jump out of there.
And as for RP, you think it would be nice RP if we put a huge sign near a secret place that says "THERE IS A SECRET BASE NEARBY, PRETEND LIKE YOU DIDNT SEE THIS". Ye, nice RP indeed ^_^

Ever entered Omega-52 on your own? The last time I misdocked at the wrong jumphole my characters ship couldn't stand any second longer than it took to "reinitialise" the jump engines (30 seconds)!

Exaggeration makes it more obvious what you mean, but these buoys will NOT show up on the ingame map nor will they show a flashing light on 10k range! And someone mentioned lawful and unlawful ways to communicate that the jumphole in front of your cockpit may lead to a silent, painful and sudden death if you dare to enter ...
It'd be way harder to find every "secret" stuff if the FL universe had some bigger distances to cross, but it's a game and frankly I'm glad to not cross systems as big as Newcastle everyday!
Edit added:
Oh, and what about de-motivating rookie players to explore Discovery Sirius on their own?

Yes I have. And if you cant fly in circles around a JH for a couple of seconds to dodge fire from some NPC's, then you're obviously doing something wrong.
' Wrote:You can. Its called going out and exploring for yourself. If you enter a system and get blown up. Who cares. You now know that system isn't to be entered. Continue on.
Why do we have to hold peoples hands and spoon feed them everything?
Imagine you are new, consider yourself lawful and law abiding, have a lawful ID and iff, with lawful everything and your setip is legit via server rules.
You explore and fly into a jumphole you just found.
BAM!
The LPI blows your brains out.
Or the Navy, or he BAF, or the Kusari state police.
You wont understand, because normally, a police guy would tell you dont go there if its restricted, he wouldnt just shooting you.
You'll understand only after a player tells you.
Until them you'll jsut think... this makes no sense. What a weird mod.
If there was a bouy saying "Restricted space. Only enter if you have friendly clearance from the LPI, Trespassers will be shot on sight.", you'll understand. You can even put a whole paragraph in ther explaining to you IRP what you need to do if you wanna become police or what this system is actually for.

Only the faction which dont want to stay hidden will put one up, of course.
Its for each faction to decide individually if they want to put one up, and what they want to write in it.
Nomads probably wont put one up.
A faction which wants to stay hidden may write "DANGER! JUMP WHOLE LEADS INTO A BLACK HOLE! DO NOT ENTER!"
+1 for putting a guard-owned bouy outside of every guard system jumphole. To those saying "Hey, why would we advertise this super secret system?": A bouy has zero impact on players who refuse to follow your scripts. If they want to fly through your highly protected guard system, takinng pictures and killing your rookies, they will.
Bouys will help those who want to respect the "Secret" status of these guard systems. Those who are ignorant of your guard space, and wish to respect it will see "Warning: GTFO", giving them the opportunity to stay out of these systems they might not know about
