Quote:well....I hate the single players.
no...but...you can set your alignment in the SP, so, i don't see the problem...run your own server.
and....I'm against anything that gives the admin's more work....so, admin control should be out...they do enough.
I think making ships restricted by rep would increase RP....instead of just saying you defected with that rheinland cruiser, you actually have to do it....
you want an oorp ship, you have to rep twice.
Unselie, if you believe it or not. There is a possible RP in open SP to. I don't want to set my char neutral or friendly to all factions.
To restrict the capships to rep with guards will change nothing except increasing the time a bit to get one.
For example: After you got an Outcast Dread. you pay a bribe to join the corsairs. Also it will not avoid a capship rush.
To apply for one to the admins/faction leaders is the best way to limit their numbers. Also if any player out there want to own a BS, he/she has to serve in a faction which can deploy admirals. After a long time he/she diserves some promotions maybe til admiral. This is long time motivation to be loyalty to the char and the faction. This would be the best for roleplay.
For Freelancers: You have to play your char at least a half year, strictly following your roleplay and you can apply for a gunboat.
If anyone will found a new faction. He/she must have a long way til the faction is great enough to get the permission of admins to deploy admirals. Then a Bs can be buyed.
I know that this way is very hard to handle for admins and i don't know yet how to manage this as best as possible.
alright i was one of the guys Dopamino mentioned, flying a RH BS without a faction flag.
i wanted to have some power, i mean REALLY power so worked hard to get the best one ive ever seen. it took about 2 weeks for me to get that RH BS and equip it with some more power. then what i get was "a spinner, with every little contact spinning until you vomit". it takes more than 2 mins to dock anywhere. you cant examine ships you have never seen before.
outer systems are like forbidden because u need to get through at least one astroid field (mostly much more) which may take your hours to go where you want to. it is not even fun to shoot something you cant see (turret view). and for those who like to shoot at a + believe me it is much more satisfying to fly through the wreck of your last prey than just reading the console saying someone killed someone. yes most of the time you wont see any remnants because of your ships size.
just wanted to give a foresight to those who are planning to buy a BS.
ps: i sold my BS, which took me about 2 weeks of trade to get, in a week after i got it.

All battleships, maybe even cruisers and gunboats, need to be sold only in guard systems.
Honestly...I would go a step further...any ship Mk II and above should be moved to guard systems. There should be more involved in acquiring the best military equipment available than just trading for the credits.
Hoo-bloody-ray! I've been saying the same thing for months. It's about time we really clamped down on the capship whoring. It's getting out of control.
And we're also seeing alot of whoring in Gamma these days... seems like every Destroyer captain and his dog does nothing but go on a Corsair beatdown.
@Angel, with respect, Discovery is primarily a MP mod. And my god, will no one think of the admins???!! They have their hands full as it is, what with rule breakers and all, without having to vet every single request for a capship....
' Wrote:That's sort of what I've suggested Unselie. By moving 'elite' ships into faction guard systems a player MUST get their reps in order to even browse the ship dealers' wares.
romer: That's not true!:nono:
I've started characters on many 4.82 and 4.83 Discovery servers. Most servers start players with LPI friendly, but some start players completely neutral with all factions (except Nomads, The Wild & Phantoms). When I start completely neutral, I can take that character into Virginia (Liberty Navy Guard) and buy anything that I can afford (some servers start players with as much as $500,000,000). However, if my new character scores any kills on the way to Virginia, there is a chance that the Liberty Navy Guard will be hostile. On one 4.83 server, I started a character with an LPI-friendly reputation and $500,000,000, then bought an Assault Frigate/Battlecruiser at Baltimore Shipyard. By the time I got to Texas, I had killed so many criminals that I had an LPI tag. When I entered Virginia, the Liberty Navy Guard was hostile, even though the Liberty Navy was maxed-out friendly (right behind the LPI). Needless to say, the guard system reputations are totally messed up and completely illogical.

yeah...how about making ships sensitive to your rep?
anyone?
I don't know if it is technically possible but it is the best solution.
Putting them in guard systems is not a good idea. My main argument: It would hurt RP if capships were removed from shipyards. Why have a big facility like that and not sell ships from it?
@madcrooksey: 2 Osiris, 1 Outcast Destroyer, 2 other giant destroyers, 2 Gunboats and a Taiidan bomber. There was no starflier there. I didnt say every single ship was yours, and I also did not name a single faction, so no one was outed. Besides that is not the point the point is that there were 7 frickin capships there and not a single fighter. That is not very good RP, and there needs to be some limits placed on capships.

ON MY WAY OUT OF RETIREMENT
I considered tagging along in my gunboat... I was in Theta at the time. But I looked at the players list and saw more ships I knew to be Outcast than other ships (and apparently some of those 'other' ships were Outcasts or allies too), so I figured it would be a bit of overkill. Only time anyone should invade a system is when there are a decent number of defenders around (equal or greater than the attackers).
Anyway, an overt offensive attack against Gamma isn't really Alejandro's style. His thuggish cousins can rot on their rock of a planet and play with their useless alien trinkets... He has more productive ways to spend his time.
