Anyone else feel that having new york as the out of character system is limiting to game play, immersion, and roleplay? Personally i find it annoying to fly all over the universe, and either use a jumphole to avoid new york, or the like. It must be even worse for the LSF and lib rogues and such to have the OOC system their main house system.

Its easily fixed too, a jumphole behind manhattan that leads to an empty ooc system with one base dockable tied to a neutral faction that you cannot go hostile too, much like the phantom faction that you cannot go green too.

Also, some more things to do in liberty space would be nice. all the main tradeing seems to avoid new york, and the systems attached to it.

Could just be me though, but i didnt even notice it untill i started spending time in liberty. Lack of things to do here other than kill npcs.

I would agree with you to an extent. New York would seem to make a very good place to be fully RP. The only thing would be is to have everyone start somewhere else as I believe thats why NY was chosen (because its where all new characters begin).

It is the heart of Liberty and for all intents and purposes Sirius, so it would make sense to have it not be the OCC/non-RP/non-PvP zone.

Yeah create a Connecticut like system where the bases are always neutral. But I feel some people might be VERY slow to change

one could limit the out of roleplay for <lvl30 chars. - well i mentioned that in other posts allready, but it appeared that a lot of players just need/want such a place to chill and ooc talk.

- like referring to blowing up entire navy forces while lsf has to watch and sit there
- everyone roaming freely around, pirates, smugglers etc. ( while especially the pirates protect THEIR homesystems fiercly from even allies sometimes )

if a low level char would not have to roleplay much there, its OK. but its a way to get used to the roleplay if the higher level chars DO roleplay it out, i think.

well, but i don t think thats gonne happen. the point is, when a character turns 30 we expect him to deal with the full scale roleplay, removing his immunity from other higher level players, when he turns 40, we expect him to adopt to the roleplay totally, choosing an identity etc. - so i think we can aswell expect them to keep up the roleplay throughout ALL systems ( maybe except conneticut - i wouldn t care for that one, its an out of roleplay system anyway )

It would be easier to remove the rule that allows no-RP and OOC in NY. The system should probably remain a neutral zone. Making a new intro system as good as NY is hardly doable.

I think we should take off the No-Damage zone, though. If anybody's stupid enough to break the Under-Thirty rule, they just get whacked harder. The way I see it, New York should be a virtual war zone, with Hellfire and the lot around. But, no guns...

Is it possible to make new characters start at some other system? In some special new no-RP/OOC system startup system, similar to Connecticut arena? Because it's a bit strange to have one of the largest battlefields given away to kindergarten/banks. Possibly making a rule to prohibit over-40 to escape into that special non-PvP zone from pursuit as I've seen people doing it around and it's a bit frustrating.

p.s. oh, and make some banners in that system displaying rules and such... :-) Imagine a base with those attached all over it, and then some big banner before exit jumphole (one-sided?) saying "Did you read the rules?" with some scary man pointing at you. :-) Or "By using this jumphole you agree to all server rules...", or something else along those lines. Of course it will not stop people from breaking the rules but at least some have a bit of fun out of it.

reminds me on ultima online ( duhh - someone remember that old mmorpg? ) - they added a place called "heaven" yay, for namegivings...

a new player would start there. no pvp. and shops that sold all sorts of information sheets - thats rules, guildinfo, recruitments etc - aswell as GM events and real news.

a player would be able to level up a little ( in freelancer terms to like a startracker with a decent amount of weapons ) and then would be led out into the "real world". - and there he would start in the "country" he chose to. interesting aspect : in freelancer terms, several jumpholes - 1 to kusari making your faction green to kusari officials, but red to bretonia, ... 1 to liberty to new york, another to rheinland, and maybe even 1 to gamma/alpha - ( of course not making the guards green )

well, maybe that needs tweaking - or who wants to pop out in gamma with red BHG faction and a startracker haha.

just a thought though -

No reason to make the ooc zone a starting zone for new people. As was already stated, the under 30 rule is all new players need. Right now new york is used to park clan banks, and as a big chat room. It could be so much more as a role play and pvp enabled zone.

If smuggling is going to be more prominent in the next version, its going to be pretty awkward to stop chasing these people when they get to new york, and then have to resume after they leave.

the ooc zone could be completely empty, just a jump hole to and from, and it would serve the same purpose as new york is holding now. if its out of role play anyways, it doesn't need to be pretty or immersing.

and as far as people being slow to change, i think they will change very quickly if its pvp enabled.

You could always use one of the central 'empty' systems... two of them being Galileo north of Manhattan, and Hudson south of Manhattan... add an extra planet and a base or two with these items for sale and making the NPC's in these systems more... noob-like.
