Ok then, I'll probably include a new entry into server rules that will prohibit usage of F1 in PvP engagements for fighters (5 mil fine), traders (5 mil fine) and capital ships (10 mil fine).

Why not 15mill fine for traders? they are traders, it is supposed they have a lot of money because they trade in a L.train. And they can recover 5mill in a single run. But 15 mill will be more effective at discouraging traders from F1ing.

I've got my Nomad Battleship stuck several times lately and used F1, but I'd be prepared to use alt-F4 instead or just avoid asteroids completely.

I don't think a fine is the way to go, as rich players will be able to afford it, but if it has to be a fine, then how about a percentage of wealth for all characters on the account - say a 75% fine?
Quote:Freelimits project that contained F1 fix is nothing more than dead now, so there's no stable release with 'limited' F1 menu. The only thing that can be done is removing F1 menu from space, which will make undocking very painful in certain situations.
Igiss, can you explain more what you mean by this? Removing the F1 options while in space only (not while docked) is what we need. I know Crossfire mod has this, and a couple have mentioned Asgard and I think Evolutions (can't remember about that). Would it be possible to take from those mods?

Doesn't that switch the problem from F1ing to ALT-F4ing. Lets face it, you provide any means of character switching while in space some individuals will take advantage of it. The fact is we need some type of character switch in flight to get out of situations where the ship gets stuck. I don't see a solution to the problem and I think it is just a matter of honor for players not to use F1 when confronted by another player.

Not for combat, I don't believe. I need to test it, but I don't think Alt-F4 is a safe way of escaping combat, as the character doesn't immediately disappear from the server - there is a time delay during which the character can still be killed. Igiss did this a while ago when I was having problems with the Marsflyer. Igiss or Wolfpack might know more about this, I'm not sure about it without testing.
Why do you need to switch characters in flight to get out of sticky situations? Surely that isn't in the spirit of the game. The only time I switch characters in flight is to transfer items, but I'd be very happy to lose that - other players can help with item transfers.

in freelancer, it'll just kill the game. however, there's gonna be a "ghost" effect in the server we'd all see.. that "time lag" daed is talking about.
That ghost *CAN* be killed and the server will read it as a death. Anyone who's been disconnected or the game crashed on them will have the same effect as an ALT+F4.

Sorry, sticky as in stuck to asteroids. Not fighting. Bad choice of words...I've fixed it.
I see the only way to fix this is a very large amount of money lost (like the 75% that deadalus suggested) or a temporary ban from server, say 3 days. If they do it repeatedly they could get a permenant ban. Those seem to be the most efficiant, effective, and fair ways to solve the issue. Though some people get disconnected insted of F1ing. In a fight with Sparrow A.K.A. Sauron my wireless internet dropped out and I got disconnected. Of course he never believed me because his attitude is that everyone is out to get him :/.

No. Ive seen what the program does when you hit ALT+F4 with SoftIce. When you ALT+F4, the game calls a subroutine that saves all player info, and then call Disconnect();(I dont remember the name of the function, but it was something like disconnect???(); ). So when you alt+f4 out, the app disconnects fron the server correctly.

Ban effects only account, not characters. That's why I propose that we first punish character, then account owner if the F1 situation repeat.
The only way to prove a F1 usage case is fast reconnect or re-entry as another char. That's why screenshots are needed - to determine who was logging in/out. Server logs that too, so we could check time and punish the offender.
