I am writing on behalf of the IND leadership concerning the rise of Mining and the rather terminal drop in trading that has resulted.

We are currently trying to figure out ways to ensure a rise in trading activity, activity that is directly related to Pirate factions, and subsequently pirate hunting factions.

Let's face it, there is simply more profit in mining. We know the logic behind this due to the great mining experiment.

The key issue is, what can be done to raise trade again to a point where people return to plying goods from one port to another.

Here in, lies a petition, to be signed or endorsed by trading factions/indie traders/pirate factions everywhere.

Sitting in Dublin is getting stale for the pirates, and for the lawful factions as well.

Please may we have a 20% raise in Trade profits to make Trade a competitive alternative to Mining.

Any other activity suggestions, or alternatives are welcome to be listened to.

...or a 20% drop on ore prices. Or 60%.

Signed: Evangeist - pirate, trader, miner

EDIT: And while we are at it, make Hegemons cost about 5 times more. That's a top-tier cash-cow what pays for itself after a single successful trip.

The IND trying to get even richer? [Image: emoticon-0126-nerd.gif]

It's a though one. Robbing ore haulers is very rewarding in terms of credits and abusive language. On the other hand, it shifts activity to few certain mining factions.

Everything Evangelist said. Trading doesn't need more profit, mining just needs less.

Lets not nerf money making even more.
Buff Trading!

Of course factions could sponser traders, give them competitive rates.
Would actually work quite well in this system:

Faction puts out a contract requiring so many goods in this amount of time.
Traders and trading factions can either fulfil the contract independently, bit by bit, or attempt to claim the entire contract on the assurance of fulfilling the demand entirely.
The traders show their evidence on the forums, the factions pay out.
The admins then give the factions the money paid out, plus a little extra.
Admin moneys can be done every fortnight or longer.

Basically puts the player economy more into play.

We already do this, just without admin help.

Nerf the price of most ores. The mining experiment, unfortunately failed. Decreasing the cargo hold of the Hegemon won't solve anything.

I'd prefer buffing trading to nerfing mining, although I don't have a miner. Besides, nerfing mining would cause Q_Q, whereas buffing trading would not.

For some reason I just don't like the idea of making Hegemon more expensive. I don't know exactly about the time/profit balance when mining is concerned, but it still takes much more time to mine stuff and take it to the destination. For that time I can make a 2 or 3 runs in my BWT, so I think that the difference wouldn't be that great (although it may be; as I've just said, I haven't tried mining). And if you nerf mining profits and increase the Hegemon's price, the amount of Q_Q will be... I don't even want to imagine that.

In general: Alvin's suggestion - signed by a person whose only cash-making vessel is a BWT. Maybe even 30% buff (but this might be too extreme).

P.S.: another solution - making the Hegemon suitable for mining only, not hauling (somehow). Though, people still can F1 and switch to their transports, so yeah, that probably won't help. Besides, it'd be a nerf (did I say I prefer buffs to nerfs?).

Yeah, why not, lets see if it fixes anything. I suspect it will not however, mining is easy for reasons other than profit. ( Just sit in one place , no thinking involved, same route everytime)
