You have got to be kidding me.

Did you think about people -factions- that NEED mining to make an income?

This is the most stupid, and frustrating thing that has happened in this game since Ive started playing on here. I have to say, if it doesn't get sorted soon, I will be reconsidering my position in the game.

DSE) is gunna have to change completely, as the current 'project' we are working on involves mining, and it is the only thing we have up and running. (After spending all the money we - the DSE) company- have made -and both mine and my boyfriends entire game savings - on ships (Mining ships) to get it set up, and active again. Every other faction, and trader that rely on mining, and miners, are going to have to change what they do completely also, BMM, Mollies, Junkers, IMG, GMG, to name a few.

Oh, did you think about the -new- players, mining helium? What are they expected to do? Trade in a starflyer until they get the credits needed to trade in a bigger ship????

What about people who stick to the RP and -don't- F1, and follow the rules, or whatever this is about, you know, these people ACTUALLY do exist in game believe it or not!!!!

So, pretty much whats happening here is that people who ARE sticking to the rules, and ACTUALLY role playing, and making an effort, and enjoying the game etc etc etc, have to suffer for other fools mistakes???????

I don't have words for this... well, actually, I do. But they wont be suitable for the forums, so I will go and rage elsewhere.

As I've said before:

- Drop ore prices by 75%
- <strike>Quadruple</strike> Triple the bonuses MiningMod applies to ore drops.

Result: ~20% profit drop in mining, ore becomes equally valuable to the standard commodity which makes piracy a lot simpler, mining requires more transportation then actual shooting rock.
Subresult: Less hanging around the mining fields, more moving around Sirius. Activity disperses. Mining factions remain a viable option.

I guess this just leaves ferrying scientists in ore tankers and trains around as moneymaker? [/Annoyed]

It's fine, but the problem is concentration. There just needs to be more equally overpowered fields as Dublin, but spread apart more. Especially Gallia is begging for one.

This!

good idea, in fact...

It would also help trading factions, by... for example... not hanging around in dublin for 1.5 hours until all transports are filled up...

Yep, that's what I did. If one was smart they would restart to a house and get a free freighter to haul goods in.

Then they can trade in a starflier. Shutting down mining only means the new players have to put slightly more effort in.

because you still die faster then a pirate, even with security. So why bother?

There is NO problem that can`t be solved by the use of high explosives.

First off, lets look at the problem.

Mining is the easiest and quickest way to make money. That's both by yourself and in a group. As it's the easiest and quickest way to make money, the majority of people do it. Since the majority of people do it, then it's logical that the majority of "lolwuts" will also have gravitated to the activity. Which therefore leads to a massive clusterbuck of ooRP and rule breaking. And that's a part of the problem.

The other half of the problem is the average member of Discovery. This average member is quite happy to join into ganks because "they're lolwuts" even when the opposing side consists of official factions and indies. Which then leads to a lot of bad feelings which results in more ganking and bad mouthing and ad infintium.

So that's the problem as a whole.

Now, basically, the current situation is thus; the admins got rather annoyed with the massive amounts of crap that came out of Dublin and Tau-23. So the mining mod has been turned off as a direct result in the hopes of decreasing the crap.

Edit: It's quarter to seven in the morning, I've had no sleep. Spelling mistakes and the like are to be expected.

There are two major causes of the problems.

1. Human stupidity and its exponential growth as the number of people increases..
2. A lack of variation.

Cause number one is not fixable. Ever.

Cause number two is. Here's how I think it can be fixed:

Firstly, we need more viable mining spots. There's three or four decent areas to mine from last I checked. Out of those decent areas, there's a clear superior choice in terms of money making potential. Dublin which means everybody uses that single field. Which leads to the aforementioned clusterbuck. Heck even having those four fields is enough, if they all earn similar amounts.

Secondly, we need more locations to sell the ore that is mined. The further away from the mining areas, the more the ore should sell for.

Thirdly, we need to increase the profit gained from trading. It should rival or top the amount earned from solo mining. But the income from group mining should far exceed that of trading.

Onto relevant issues.

GMS
BMM
Kruger
DHC
IMG

These factions all have mining as a major point of activity. Without it, their activity level will drop. Which gives pirates less to do and then that leaves lawfuls less to do. Which means an overall drop in activity or at the very least a devolution to the earlier versions of Discovery. (That means people just shoot each other. Since that's all they've got to do.)

Yes, they can trade. But they shouldn't be reduced to just trading.

And lastly, powertrading.

If I recall correctly, powertrading is the act of doing nothing but trading. Which is what helps activity, because traders trading gets pirates pirating and lawfuls lawing(?)(It's a word now). So powertrading is a good thing, stop trying to denounce it as an evil act.

Now, quite simply, the "lolwuts" that want to have a cap, will get a cap. No matter what. If they have to trade for 2 months to get a cap, they will probably do it. Now I would like to be able to get a capital with a weeks worth of trading. I do not want to devote my all of my free time so that I can have a big ship.

Taking in mind that the only capital that I've owned is a gunboat. I'm only just now getting interested in actually owning a bigger capital, because it's a part of an RP that I wish to begin. Yes, that's right I, like quite a lot of this server, prefer to RP.

At the end of the day, by nerfing any money making option you're just reducing the amount time that somebody can spend focusing on their RP. To those who'll climb on their high horse and say that trading is a form RP, yes, I agree. But there's not a single one amongst us who has not traded purely for the credits to fund another character.

tl;dr
More variation, less talks of nerfing, less complaining.

I also realise that the amount of man hours that it would take to do what I suggest. Hell I will help if it's needed. Just PM me.

Edit: It's quarter to seven in the morning, I've had no sleep. Spelling mistakes and the like are expected.
