Alex fingers froze momentarily the steady tapping on the keyboard falling silent. He resumed after a momentary pause.
"Yeah... she shot me." Alex replied. "Lucky for me she's a terrible shot. My shoulder bloody hurt for a week afterward but I was fine." Alex sighed heavily.
"I'm sure when Emma told you the story she left out the part where she lost the fight to me afterward. I had the choke her into unconciousness so I could get away... definetley not one of my better moments." He stopped typing allowing the computer to process the new video code he'd written.
"Better off than me. Almost had to kill my own twin sister dozens of times. Not to mention my brother."
Some music blared. Jeremy touched his comm. After he few moments, he got off the bed.
"Rei will look after you, I'm needed at the bridge." Giving a nod to the girl, he left, leaving Rei to make sure Alex didnt try and go into restricted dataspace.
Alex sighed when the computer returned back that the requested operation could not be completed blah blah blah. More coding needed to be done apparently. He went back to the source code of the video file and began tapping away again.
"So Rei, what's your story? You haven't said I word since I met you." Alex asked without looking away from his computer screen.
"Aoi Isinjen. They attacked. My father was a KNF Chimera pilot. But after that...no one did anything. I left. I am an illegitamate child. I never knew my mom. I took a Drake light fighter and flew. I was attacked by pirates in Tau 31. Jeremy had been flying by, and rescued me. Asked me to join the Order. It seems alot of people hate him, but he says screw you. He's nice,but a bit tempermental...uh...yeah...he brought me back to Toledo and put me through training. He then asked me if I would like to serve here. I accepted. If you get to know him, he's a great guy. I dont know what would have happened.." Rei fell silent. L"Sounds cliche..."
Rei just crosses ger arms across her chest, holding the datapad.
Alex nodded and continued typing. He ran the new code line and the video reverted... granted only slightly. The quality got worse but it still wasn't back to being fully original yet. Alex sighed and returned to the code to see what else he should try fixing.
"Some times the best stories are full of cliches." Alex replied. "Take my friend Greg for example. In highschool he was head over heels in love with some girl. The entire story was full of so many cliches that actually happened that it's became one of the funniest stories in his arsenal of funny stories. Not saying your story is funny of course..."
Alex ran the altered code again and the video reverted further. Fake him was still in the video but now there was something else. He ran through the video on an increased speed to check his findings.
"Hey Rei, check this out." He said beckoning her over to the screen.
"Look," Alex swiveled the screen so she could see and reversed the video.
"This guy," He pointed to a man near the edge of the screen. "Stands near the site of the explosion for four hours and leaves just minutes before it goes off. Not only that but he was edited out of the video." Alex explained.
"Suspicious no?" He asked. That led to a bigger question: who the hell was that guy? "Too bad I can't just enhance the image with one keystroke like in all the movies eh?" He added with a chuckle. No, it would take a bit more effort to get a good picture of the man's face.
