Well I don't see any reason why not to implement it in Dusty's way.

My key goal is to know who runs what Gunboat, just incase.

There is another, practical reason. In Coalition Lore the Gunboat arm are our main line of defense for Omega-52. It was how we turned back the Reaper incursion. They're proud little ships.

@ Tenacity, soon.

to the rest of you, the ID's will come shortly, give us all time to get things in place that we need to make the transition as smooth and disruption free as possible.

I am here and I am on skype if there are any problems. A general Coalition chat will be set up as well to give people a chance to interact and a Coalition Emergency channel is already established.

I wouldn't go that far, and it certainly wasn't my intention to demonize or point fingers at anyone. I myself is something in-between having played for a while on-and-off and never joining any factions, so you probably know better about the effect of registries than I.

Maybe it is cynical, but I do feel that the level of excellence (and hereby I don't necessarily mean lengthy RP-backgrounds etc., but rather the courtesy to at least respect that someone else is trying to RP with you, to have some form of knowledge of your faction's background and aims and playing that out in the game and so on) has dropped, and that there is a lot of animosity both in-game and on the forums.

I think an open tiered system, where you have regular indies with all ships up to and including gunboats, then a capship registry with very few limitations and then the official factions at the top could work as an incentive to promote higher standards for all. Yes for some that have played this game for a long time as indies, it would feel as a restriction, but for newer players I think it could be kind of neat having something to work towards at your own pace, and knowing that you must at least be able to type English and so on if you want that Dreadnought.

By making a registry mandatory everyone will know that sooner or later they will have to adhere to certain standards (again, very basic stuff like typing in English, drafting a character background etc.), and that they might as well start "behaving" right away. If you start from scratch it is going to take you quite a while to afford a capship anyways, so you would be free to learn the ropes and lol around like we all have (I have at least) all you want before being able to get it.

EDIT: Sorry, I know this is all pretty much off-topic, I just think it could counter the problems that some fear with a new open Coalition ID (which we don't know what will allow yet, so maybe the "fear" isn't grounded).

My key point is, that if say I need Mendel or another member of the Coalition Government contacting an Indie ship, it would be nice to be able to use a name and rank.

"Ahh Captain so and so, I have a request ... blah blah blah."

For fighter pilots, that's simpler...

Since Captain is the rank most Coalitioners need to have to fly a Gunboat (that's Army Captain not Naval) I will generally assume I am dealing with a Captain when dealing with a Gunboater, unless told otherwise in the registry.

I have a question.
If the SCRA| members are going to be "treating the indies equally", does this mean they'd let a random indy in a gunboat (just as an example)take command of a fight, or would they expect to always have their orders followed in battle because they're wearing tags?

Would one of the SCRA|MIL- characters listen to someone roleplaying a mid-rank outside of the SCRA|? Again, as an example:
Code:
A new SCRA| recruit is sitting around Zhukovsky, and nobody else from his faction is online. Suddenly, a wild indy bomber appears. He appears to roleplay well enough, and perhaps he even has a faction tag.
Tovarisch[PF]: This is colonel Boris Wodka of the People's Fleet. Militsiya agent, I am heading on a patrol. I could use an escort.
Now, here's the fun part.
SCRA|MIL-Han.Nugai: No, you accompany ME on a patrol, I am SCRA and you are just People's Fleet.
...or...
SCRA|MIL-Han.Nugai: Yes comrade colonel, assuming formation.

Which of the two responses is more likely?

(inspired by a new [LN] recruit trying to order an indy battleship to do something... how unrealistic, is it not?)

Well the SCRA is considered an Elite Unit.

But even SAS soldiers have to follow orders from an Air Force Lieutenant, if there are no other ranking officers.

I like Joe's answer to the issue.

Don't issue orders, but make requests.

As for Indies taking command in a fight, again Joe's solution seems to be the best. Earn a position of trust with the SCRA, and I see no reason why an Indie officer can't take control of a situation.

Non official faction members are not necessarily less well-informed, less well-experienced and less well-suited for the job than official faction members.

I know a good few indies who have shown themselves to be far more insightful than many faction members.

Equality is important, else you'll get others vying for factions and potentially officialdom. In my opinion, a tag does not give you the right to order players around; if you are role-playing 'properly'(I'm sure I don't need to elaborate on that), if an indie asks for an escort, you give it to him, and follow his orders for the duration.

I'm unsure how far your principles of communism go.

Anyway, this'll be interesting; we're sure to be getting a good few fights over in 47/50 soon, eh?

As for Indies issuing orders, as stated, that is down to said indie earning trust with the Official Faction. It is also within the rights of both sides to refuse said field orders if needed.

Will having an Indy ID alter the SCRA|'s recruitment process in anyway? While I've always toyed with the idea of joining, I never really liked what seemed like a forum role play only process; I'm sure I'm not alone.

Perhaps a referaly system based on in game interactions with members of SCRA| is on the horizon?

Alvin about indy control... simple solution.

Only official members may purchase and consume Vodka while in uniform. Indies may only purchase and consume ONE bottle pr week.

Official faction members also get a 50% discount on all service, that includes but is not limited to; Television, Internet, long distance phone calls, prank calls, pizza delivery, prostitution services, ship repairs and access to a personal house maid
