i take it that the similarities concern the forked tail element - on the gaian GB, thats two ornamental "band" being dragged behind the ship ... on the zoner ships - its a massive armoured hull section.
however - many zoner ships share a massive front section, a wider but short mid section and a shorter aft section - however... so do a few other ships.
i will take that concern serious though
oh - and the ship shown is not a zoner ship. ( in spazzys image )
It ain't a "Zoner" ship. It's a Jinx ship. Many Jinx ships just happen to have that specific flattened-out-metal-plate-on-top-that-slightly-curves-down-with-little-wing-things, so things start to look similar. It's just that a lot of the Jinx ships we see in the mod are the Zoner ships. So everyone assumes "Zoner," when it's just an artist's specific style. Not a faction's.
Personally, I think this new Claymore is a step in the right direction. I know the Gains have ties to Kusari right now, but I like that this one looks more Bretonian. Gaians are a Bretonian group, and I'd like it if they got more Bretonian-looking ships.
But of course, I've never played a Gaian. I hardly even ever play in Bretonia. My opinion on what Gain ships should look like might not mean much, but I still feel this way about it.
Also I feel that our mod is somewhat lacking in the Bretonian-inspired ships. I like seeing space-fish and space-crustaceans.
EDIT: Just realized I was spelling your name with a Y. Fixed that...
Don't fix something that's not broken. The current Gaian GS is a beauty. It doesn't need a drastic revision. Maybe a little work on those small wings but that would be all. Your model is nice and all but I see it more like a Yacht or something like that.
Jinx, my one line comment was made after first glance on the ship....if i didn't read the title of this thread, just by looking on it i would say its a zoner ship....reminds me on large zoner vessels (not GB)...
Now, we can discuss how zoner ships have larger front end and other differences.... but this was my first impression when i saw it...
IMO, if you wish to update the model of claymore, keep in line with existing ship silhouette, because this new model silhouette, at least to me, looks like a zoner design...
I wont go into model quality since that isn't visible here, and i only refer to design...
I would move those wing like thingies more to the front of the ship, lose entirely those back darty looking fins along with wings behind the cockpit. Then you would get large engines that stick out of the main hull that is largely seen around Bretonia. On the back section, you could make some kind of ornaments or fins but positioned more vertically...just a though nothing more...
Mao, I don't like this citation about "fixing what is not broken" since it allows you to deny revision of everything that can fly. It's not broken, but it can be better, it can be different, it can change to motivate players fly it. Let's call it progress or so.
Why do I see "It's a Zoner ship" commentary in every thread about Jinx's models?
Beacuse she designs all the Zoners ships.
On a side note....
That thing is ugly as sin.
I loves mah Claymore.
EDIT: its the texturing and the coloring...its......eh.....
gone four years, first day back: Zoners still getting shot in Theta :|
its a fair point to make - really... many of my designs share elements. - and since the most prominent shipline is the zoner line - i guess thats just natural. ( although the vast majority of ships i made are not zoner ships )
in other words - one can usually spot the designer of every model.
- its easy to spot a doom design ( tile skinning, rather blocky, but precisely cut edges and very well thoughtout proportions )
- AoM - these ships are often somewhat retro looking - have a very precise texture job ( the 4.85 ones )
- Legenation - his ships share his style of skinning and often solid cockpits, too
- Xing - elaborated meshworks and high detail ( sadly often in contrast to vast low detail areas ) and massive UV skins
i could go on there. - personally - i think i should translate "zoner ship" into "jinx design" - its more appropriate, cause i only made 5 zoner ships - and the corvo isn t exactly in line with the gunboat / juggernaut atm.
zoner ships : jinkusu, conference, corvo, aquillon, whale ( out of over 30 ships )
new model is cool - but I like the old-dildo-GB more - so don't get me wrong - GREAT job - just both ships look great and I like the old one more:)\
PS: To those who cry about - another zoner ship - Someone said: "It's like complaining that you look like Brad Pitt"
Zoner ships are awesome looking so ... I don't see the problem with that. Still don't think we need to change the old one.
I wouldn't take much stock in the jinx=zoner ship digs...inrp, it can be passed off as factions mimicing what works. Honestly, it's pretty rare to find a car company that doesn't mimic what they see other companies producing year by year. It's just the way the industry rolls in order to compete.
but umm...that probably didn't come out sounding the way I intended.
Anyway, if a remodel is really in the stones, what if you meld the 2 together? Change the Kusari wings, but keep the rectangular cockpit, piping & just streamline it abit, but not so much as to change it's flavor?
For example, The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a modern car that has the spirit of an old car from the 1940's & stands out on the street primarily because of that fact.
