This a possibly serious thread about the new Mining Mod.

I'm hearing that some people have taken one look at the new prerequisites needed in order to do mining of any sort and decided that it's 'too hard' and taken to trading instead.

Are you one of those miners who have switched to trading because it's "easier"?

I had a go at making a Junker Miner (scrap). I had the right ship, a Salvager, the correct ID/IFF and a mining turret.

Couldn't get it to work.

I have since deleted that ship to make way for my "Barge in training".

So, anyone else had that experience?

Not with that fourth option in the poll there, it's not.

No, I haven't "run screaming" from mining. It's different, but not that hard to get a grasp on.

Also don't get a Barge. Please. Just don't.

Nah, mining can be fun, when done in company.

I still mine, sometimes.

I didn't run screaming from mining, more like "retired" from mining.

I had a Junker miner (CSF) and a Junker hauler. I'd liked the low price - high yield style that the Junker ID provided.

Mined the scrap, docked, logged on with the hauler, tractored the ball of scrap into my cargohold and chugged off to my sellpoint.

The current tack of mining made it unattractive to me, so now my Junker hauler trades and smuggles.

The fourth option is there because some people don't care either way and I think it's better than having a 'don't care' option.

As far as getting a Barge is concerned, I'm getting it for exactly the same reason I had a Sabre..... because I want one, no other reason than that.

If it is still awesomely horrible to do anything with after I have had it for a while, then I'll sell it and upgrade my Praetor Cruiser to a Legate Dread with the left overs from it or I'll do something REALLY stupid, like go and buy a LABC to fly around in, just for the heck of it. (no not as a LOLcap, I hate those)

Personally, I am quite fond of pie.

My Basalt is useless now. I don't want to mine for risk of mining when a field is depleted and not even realising it, which was what I was doing in my Basalt. I don't know the new rates, and haven't even been mining at a time where they've been above one unit or ore per rock hit. Either every time I've been has been when the field was depleted, or mining just became utterly pointless.

But back on topic, it's not too hard at all. You need all of that equipment to get the best yields before: Ship, ID, IFF and weapons. Now it's just mandatory instead of recommended. Nobody should be having any problems.

[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.

I think that the change is good overall. Mining is still awesome sauce, but requires a different approach.

All in all I think we're generally closer than farther from the original vision.

The new changes seem to favour solo mining, now that the mined ore go straight to your ship's cargo bay instead of dropping in front of you.

That said, mining itself is still meant to be a group activity best done with more than 2 people. It can still give you a decent profit but now you've got to be smarter and faster.

Its nothing hard generally speaking.

The only big disadvantage to new player especially would be that mining require a higher knowledge ( place to mine, how to...) then trading.

ANd beside, if I could mine with ANY ship I would mine with a battleship with flak cannons in omega 7 .. (sun)
