The Problem

Smugglers. They're a fun part of Discovery. However, some people are playing them rather poorly. For example, bringing Contraband to say Manhattan, with Police in Orbit, and even when told to stop and that their docking rights are revoked, they dock anyway. Annoying, to say the least, and I've had this happen to more then five times, and that's just me.

The Possible Solution

A command called /lock. What this command would do is basically deny docking to a target (and it's a targeted command. So you can't lock someone you can't see out.) Now, their docking would be denied by all lawful bases in the area for a period of about five minutes. That include's lawful corporation bases, ect.

I propose it works for Intelligence Agencies, (Ie: LSF, MND, ect), Military, and Police ID's, Now, I know that some people will say that it's prone to abuse, and frankly, it is. However, Alex had an excellent idea that, in hindsight is so obvious.

Make the command only work if the person is carrying Contraband. That way, you don't have idiots locking out honest traders for no reason.

Suggestions, Comments, Ect welcome.

Addendum: Now, some have raised some valid concerns about this killing of Smugglers. It's a good point, which is why I'd say increase the profits from Smuggling to compliment the much higher rewards.

Note: This is a rewrite of a previous first post I had, as such, some replies may seem off. They're probably basing their content on the previous first post.

I smell abuse ))))

Though the idea's nice. Might make smuggling harder. Though smuggling at it's current state doesn't need to be harder, since the profit's not even that good, sadly. FIX SMUGGLING 8-|

P.S. Be smart, use TLAGSNET and "pirate" the smuggler midway in the lane.:P

There's a five minute time-limit, then it automatically unlocks. (Edit: Whoops, seems I didn't include that in the first post. Let me edit it)

Thanks for your extremely constructive words.

No matter what, there will ALWAYS be one idiot that will abuse it. Will we really ignore a useful tool just because of the POSSIBILITY, of abuse?

Like I said.

Quote:So I propose if it is implemented, we have a two week test period. If the community can't handle the command, then we'll make it for Official Factions only.

I say make it only for the official factions...
why?

No need for test period that way.
No abuse will have place.
it will be another thing that would more likely force the indies to apply to the official lawfuls and join their ranks what in my opinion is good idea - more control over lolwut-powerhungry-indies leading to improvement in RP.

general idea is IMO good - it's indeed annoying and most of the time smugglers also laugh at you that you have no power and you can't do thing about them docking - till you use the FR5 thing. In this case FR5 would be less required cause smuggler would be stopped - fined - cargo would captured and he would be allowed to do his thing again - so no crying about getting FR5ed what ruins their fun and more power on RPbasics for the peacekeepers.

So yeah - I support this idea although I think it should be free to use by the officials but I think it could hard to make it possible in game mechanics but still it's a good idea and restricted or not it will be good thing.
Another good thing for the lawenforces.

I support this as being more of an official faction feature...and, even then, if it could be implemented, it would have to be very carefully balanced. And, even under THOSE circumstances, I think there should still be a two-week test period.

Now, cue the anti-official pundits...
